Volleyball Falls to American International 3-0
Springfield, MA – The Merrimack women's volleyball team dropped a non-conference contest to American International on Sunday afternoon by the score of 3-0. The loss drops Merrimack to 2-7 on the young season and American Int'l wins their second straight contest to push their record to 3-7.
Game scores were 25-22, 25-22, 25-14.
Merrimack hung strong in the first set but they were not able to solve the Yellow Jackets as they fell by the score of 25-22. Freshman outside hitter
Stephanie Sheehan (Smithtown, N.Y.) had a match-high 13 kills with seven digs to lead Merrimack, while senior outside hitter
Nicole Duarte (Windham, N.H.) had eight kills and nine digs.
Set two was yet again another tightly contested match, but the Warriors were outlasted by American Int'l once again and they fell by the same 25-22 score. Junior setter
Brianna Trabucco (Canton, Mass.) had 30 assists and freshman libero
Allison Cote (Chelmsford, Mass.) had a match-high 15 digs. The Warriors played well offensively as they accumulated a .404 hitting percentage as a team, but defensively they did not do enough to earn the victory.
American Intl' was led by senior outside hitter Ellisha Terry with 11 kills and 12 digs, while freshman setter Nikki Naccarato handed out 28 assists.
"We did not play a complete match this afternoon," said head coach TJ Hajjar. "We hung tough for the first two sets but we lost our focus in the third and could not overcome the deficit."
The Warriors will play host to Assumption in a non conference matchup on Thursday, September 22 at 7:00 pm.
