Volleyball Drops Doubleheader To C.W. Post And Pace
NORTH ANDOVER, MA –The Merrimack volleyball team was downed by C.W. Post Saturday afternoon by the score of 3-0 and was later downed by Pace by the same score. Merrimack drops to 3-9, 0-1 NE-10 on the season.
Game scores against C.W. Post were 25-21, 25-22, 25-22.
Merrimack hung tough throughout the match but was not enough for C.W. Post who won their fifth match of the season by the score of 3-0. In the first set, the Warriors were led by Brianna Trabucco (Canton, Mass.) who recorded a set-high 10 assists and Nicole Duarte (Windham, N.H.) with six kills.
Duarte led the way for Merrimack with 13 kills in match number one on the day and hitting offensively at .258 percent. Freshman setter
Allison Cote (Chelmsford, Mass.) continued her solid play on the season with a team-high 17 digs.
Sets two and three were very tightly contested but the Pioneers pulled out the victories as they hit .300 and .375 respectively in the two sets. C.W. Post was led by Makamae Namahoe who recorded a match-high 21 kills.
Game scores against Pace were 28-26, 25-14, 27-25.
The Warriors put in a great effort against the host Setters, as they pushed them to extra points in set one and set three but they were unable to break through and pick up the victory. Pace extended its winning-streak to nine-consecutive three-game sweeps.
Merrimack struggled offensively, hitting .146 and suffering 23 attack errors on the afternoon. Freshman outside hitter Stephanie Sheehan (Smithtown, N.Y.) led the way for the Warriors with 12 kills and six digs.
Trabucco continued her solid play for the Warriors recording a match-high 33 assists while also recording six kills and three digs on the afternoon. Jenna Reilly (Northport, N.Y.) had herself a nice match as she recorded 11 kills, which was good for second on the team behind Sheehan.
The Setters were led on the afternoon by Tamilee Webb who recorded 12 kills and Shea Hansen who had 31 assists.
"We were just unable to get over the hump today and keep the momentum we gained after our last match," said head coach TJ Hajjar. "We were not on top of our game offensively today and that really hurt us down the stretch."
Merrimack (3-9, 0-1 NE-10) will return home to play Saint Michael's in a conference matchup on Tuesday, September 27 at 7 p.m.
