Volleyball Blanked by Stonehill 3-0

EASTON, MA – The Merrimack volleyball team was defeated Tuesday night by Stonehill College 3-0 in non-conference play.

Game scores were 25-15, 25-21, 25-19.

The Warriors dropped the first set 25-15, getting as many kills as errors (six), as the Skyhawks notched seven of the final eight points of the set.

Merrimack improved offensively in the second, getting 12 kills and hitting .229, but Stonehill took the early 10-5 lead and led from there, prevailing 25-21.

Stonehill led from the start in the third, and after Merrimack tied it at five, the Skyhawks rattled off ten of the next 12 points and pulled away 25-19. The Warriors had seven attack errors, hitting -.040 overall and had just six kills in the final set.

Stephanie Sheehan (Smithtown, NY) led the way for the visitors with seven kills and eight digs, while Jackie Jones (Amherst, NH) had six kills, five digs, two aces and three service errors.

Service errors cost the Warriors 11 points, while nine receive errors and 17 attack errors resulted in 37 total unforced errors.

Laura Huselton had 11 kills and five digs for Stonehill, while Sydney Maxey tallied 12 digs, nine kills and four aces.

"We didn't play our best tonight," said head coach TJ Hajjar. "We committed a lot of errors and we'll need to regroup for our match on Thursday."

Merrimack (1-2) visits Southern New Hampshire Thursday for a 7 p.m. non-conference match.
