Women's Basketball Set For Non Conference Battle With C.W. Post on Monday

The Particulars: The Merrimack women's basketball team will return to Bert Hammel Court on Monday night for a non conference matchup against C.W. Post. Merrimack is coming off of an 77-69 loss at the hands of the AIC Yellow Jackets. C.W. Post enters the contest after losing their last contest to the University of the District of Columbia by the score of 75-72.
ABOUT MERRIMACK: The Warriors are led by Gennifer Roy who is averaging a team-high 16.7 points and 3.8 rebounds per contest this season. Roy is coming off of a 22 point outing against AIC, shooting 12-20 from the field. Kelly Schatzlein is second on the team in scoring averaging 14.8 points and 9.9 rebounds per contest. Schatzlein is coming off of a 12 point and six rebound effort against AIC Saturday. The freshman guard duo of Chloe Rothman and Allison Wagner have performed well so far with Rothman averaging 10.3 points, 5.1 assists and 4.2 rebounds and Wagner averaging 6.2 points and hitting a team-high 21 threes. Jaclyn Lyons is averaging a team-high 5.6 points per contest off the bench this season while starting five games.
ABOUT THE COMPETITION: The Pioneers enter Monday's contest with a 13-6 overall record after losing their last game at the University of the District of Columbia 75-72. C.W. Post is led offensively by Felicia Joyner who is averaging 17.0 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. Nicolette Marciniak is averaging 10.6 points and 9.6 rebounds per game so far this season. Catherine Lutz is contributing with 9.1 points and 3.8 rebounds per game this season while starting only three contests. The Pioneers are scoring an oustanding 74.2 points per contest this season including scoring 85 points in a victory over Bentley who was the top ranked team in the country at that time.

LAST GAME (MERRIMACK 69 - AIC 77): The Merrimack women's basketball team was defeated on Saturday afternoon by the American International Yellow Jackets by the score of 77-69 on the road. The Warriors were led on the day by Gennifer Roy who recorded 24 points on 12-20 from the field. Roy also racked up six rebounds and four assists in the loss. The Warriors allowed the Yellow Jacets to haul in 13 offensive rebounds on the night which led to 15 second chance points compared to the Warriors seven. The Warriors won the battle of the paint as they scored 34 points compared to the Yellow Jackets 26 on the afternoon. The Merrimack bench also played pretty good as they contributed 13 points and the Yellow Jackets had eight.
ROY CONTINUES TO CLIMB ALL-TIME SCORING CHARTS: Senior guard Gennifer Roy put together another steady performance for the Warriors on Saturday. Roy finished the game with 24 points on 12-20 from the field. Roy also rabbed a season-high six rebounds and dshed out four assists. With her performance on Saturday Roy moved into 5th place on the all-time scoring list with 1,289 career points. Roy is 71 points shy of fourth place on the Merrimack womens basketball scoring charts. The senior has led the team in scoring eight times this season. Roy is averaging 16.7 points and 3.6 rebounds per game this year.
SCHATZLEIN CONTINUES STEADY PLAY: Junior forward Kelly Schatzlein continued her steady play for the Warriors as she recorded 12 points in the loss. Schatzlein hauled in six rebounds for the Warriors and had two steals which led to four points. Schatzlein is second in the conference in rebounds with 9.9 per contest and second in blocks per contest with 1.7 a game. She is also fourth in the conference in field goal percentage, shooting 55.8 percent. Schatzlein is now averaging 14.8 points, 9.9 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per contest this season. Schatzlein has racked up a team-high nine double-doubles through sixteen games this year and has led the team in rebounding in 13 of 16 games.
OFFENSIVE REBOUNDING AND POINTS OFF TURNOVERS: One of the biggest problems for the Warriors team all year has been allowing their opponents to get on the offensive glass. The Warriors allowed 13 offensive rebounds on Saturday afternoon but they were not able to protect the ball as they turned it over 15. The Yellow Jackets turned the 15 turnovers into 16 points but the Warriors were still able to win that category 18-16. Another key to the Merrimack loss was second chance points as the Yellow Jackets grabbed 13 offensive rebounds to kill the Warriors. AIC won the second chance points category 15-7 as the Warriors were unable to grab rebounds on the afternoon. Rhea Pascal killed the Warriors as she turned three offensive rebounds into six points for the Yellow Jackets. Roy turned two offensive rebounds into four points for the Warriors in the loss.
ROTHMAN CONTINUES STRONG POINT GUARD PLAY: Freshman point guard Chloe Rothman continued her solid play running the team on Saturday afternoon as she recorded 16 points, nine assists and eight rebounds in the loss. Rothman went 5-8 from the field including 5-7 from three point range and 1-2 from the free throw line. Rothman racked up 37 minutes of action as she led the team all afternoon long. Rothman is now averaging 10.2 points, 5.2 assists and 4.2 rebounds per contest in her freshman year.
MERRIMACK'S NEW HEAD COACH MONIQUE LEBLANC: Monique LeBlanc is entering her first season as head coach of the Merrimack Warriors. LeBlanc brings over seven years of division I coaching experience to North Andover. LeBlanc spent the last three seasons as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Northern Arizona University.
