MERRIMACK TRAVELS TO STONEHILL LOOKING FOR THIRD STRAIGHT WIN
Game 6 - Merrimack College (3-2, 2-2 NE-10) vs. Stonehill (3-3, 3-2 NE-10)
UPDATE:
Merrimack returns to action after a bye week last week to take on the Stonehill Skyhawks. Merrimack enters the game with a 3-2 record including a 2-2 conference mark after defeating the Pace Setters in their last game by the score of 63-14. Stonehill is coming off of a 28-17 loss at the hands of the American International Yellow Jackets on Saturday.
SERIES:
Merrimack has a lifetime 9-5 record against Stonehill, defeating the Skyhawks by the score of 43-30 last season at Martone-Mejail Field on Homecoming weekend. The Warriors are currently on a four game winning streak in the all-time series with Stonehill, averaging 37 points.
OFFENSE PUTS UP A SCHOOL RECORD 63 POINTS IN WIN OVER PACE:
The Merrimack football team defeated the Pace Setters in their last game by the score of 63-14, tying a school record for points in a game. The Warriors defeated the Setters by the score of 63-7 last season in their only matchup. The Merrimack offense produced 640 yards of offense, fifth most in school history, in the victory. Senior wide receiver Isaiah Voegeli had a career-day for the Warriors as he racked up 17 catches for 264 yards and three touchdowns in basically three quarters of action. Senior quarterback Joe Clancy continued to play at a high level as he finished the game going 28-for-37 for 418 yards and four touchdowns while Quinn McDonough had a career-day of his own with 119 rushing yards and three scores.
VOEGELI LEADS NE-10 IN ALL RECEIVING CATEGORIES:
Senior wide receiver Isaiah Voegeli continued to show his dominance of NE-10 opponents last Saturday as he produced a career-day. Voegeli finished the contest against Pace with a career-high 17 catches for 264 yards and three touchdowns. The 264 yards broke the NE-10 record for receiving yards in a game and he was only two receptions shy of tying the receptions in a game record. For the season, Voegeli has 56 catches for 733 yards and six touchdowns. He ranks fourth in the country in total receiving yards, second in receiving yards per game and first in receptions per game with 11.2. He sits atop the NE-10 in all receiving categories and has been named to the NE-10 Honor Roll on four ocassions so far this season.
CLANCY STAYS HOT IN VICTORY OVER THE SETTERS:
In only his fifth career start, Merrimack senior quarterback Joe Clancy continued his impressive play as he finished the game going 28-for-37 for 418 yards and four touchdowns. Three of Clancy's touchdowns went to his favorite target, Isaiah Voegeli. His throwing touchdowns came from 34, 10, nine and six yards out. Clancy has broke the 300 yard plateau in four of five games this season and has thrown for at least 274 yards in all five games.
McDONOUGH BREAKS 100 YARDS FOR FIRST TIME:
Junior running back Quinn McDonough had himself a career day last Saturday against Pace as he broke the 100 yard plateau for the first time in his career. McDonough finished off his impressive day with 12 carries for 119 yards and a career-high three touchdowns. McDonough now ranks third in the conference in rushing touchdowns with five on the season. He has rushed for 278 yards, five touchdowns and has 13 catches for 86 receiving yards on the season.
CLANCY RANKS SECOND IN COMPLETIONS IN THE COUNTRY:
Senior captain Joe Clancy currently ranks in the top five in many passing categories nationally along with leading the NE-10 in most categories. Clancy ranks fourth in the country in total passing yards and second in passing yards per contest. He also ranks second in completions per game with 33.4 and fifth in total completions with 167.
SPREADING THE WEALTH:
The Merrimack offense is known to spread the ball around to all of its receivers and on Saturday this was no different as starting quarterback Joe Clancy found nine different targets during the Warriors 63-14 victory over Pace. Clancy completed 17 passes to his favorite target Isaiah Voegeli for 264 yards and three scores. Freshman Jere Brown came up with two grabs for 29 yards while Quinn McDonough and Steven Browne each hauled in two passes. Zach Ingalls halued in one pass which was good for a 34 yard touchdown while senior Shane Ferguson caught one ball for 27 yards in the victory.
FOWLER RECORDS PICK SIX IN WARRIORS BLOWOUT:
Senior defensive back Jesse Fowler had his best game of the young season last Saturday against Pace as he finished the game with two tackles and one interception. Fowler returned his interception 47 yards for a touchdown to solidify the Warriors victory. Both of Fowler's tackles were solo tackles and his secondary kept the Setters wide receivers to just over 200 yards on the afternoon.
VOEGELI CHASING MERRIMACK SCHOOL RECORDS:
Senior wide receiver Isaiah Voegeli has etched his name in the Merrimack College record books and is looking to establish himself as the best wide receiver ever in school histoy. Voegeli broke the school record for receiving yards in a career against AIC and he now has 2,787 receiving yards. Voegeli also ranks first in career receptions and second in career touchdown catches with 26.
PERRY'S HIGH OCTANE OFFENSE RETURNS IN 2012:
After leading the NE-10 in total offense for the past four seasons, John Perry has his offense once again at the top of the league in 2012. The Warriors rank first in total offense averaging 520.0 yards per game and first in passing averaging 375.8 yards. The 375.8 passing yards and 520.0 total yards per contest rank the Warriors in second place in the country. Merrimack also ranks second in the conference averaging 36.6 points per contest after tying a school record with 63 points last week against Pace.
FIVE WARRIORS NAMED PRESEASON ALL-AMERICANS:
Entering the 2012 campaign Merrimack received five preseason All-American accolades. Offensively the Warriors had three players represented as Isaiah Voegeli, Jimon Hill and Zach Gilbert were all recognized for their play as juniors. On the defensive side of the ball the Warriors had two players including Michael Wiggins and Artis Holt. Voegeli led the Northeast-10 in receiving yards and touchdowns last season while Hill broke 1,000 total yards. Wiggins led the Warriors defense with 7.5 sacks to go along with 13.5 tackles for a loss, both team highs. Holt was dynamic as a return man along with defensively as he recorded one kickoff return for a touchdown with an average return of 29.6 yards and totaled 33 tackles and two interceptions.
MAJOR HONORS IN 2011:
The Warriors received two major conference awards following the 2011 season as senior Shawn Loiseau was named the NE-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Year for the second time. Loiseau broke the 100 tackle plateau for the third straight season and led the conference in tackles. Defensive end Tony Johnson was also named Defensive Lineman of the Year for the second time for his efforts. In all the Warriors received seven All-Conference team members. The All-Conference members were Loiseau, Johnson, Isaiah Voegeli, Jimon Hill, Zach Gilbert, Artis Holt and Michael Wiggins. Voegeli, Johnson and Loiseau were all also represented on the All-Regional team last season.
WARRIORS SCORING STREAK REACHES 118 GAMES:
Merrimack has scored points in 119 consecutive games heading into this weeks matchup with Stonehill, which ranks them in the top 20 for current point streaks. Valdosta State leads the nation by scoring in 246 consecutive games while conference foe Bentley is the only other Northeast-10 school ranked inside the top 20, scoring in 130 straight.

The Merrimack football team downed the visiting Stonehill Skyhawks by the score of 43-30 in front of 3,113 fans at Martone-Mejail Field. The win improves Merrimack's record to 5-2 (4-1 NE-10) and Stonehill falls to 2-5 (1-4 NE-10). Offensively the Warriors were led by James Suozzo who dominated the second half of the game, finishing with 261 passing yards, 122 rushing yards and five total touchdowns for the Warriors. Jimon Hill put together a solid afternoon for the Warriors as he recorded 77 rushing yards and a touchdown and also chipped in with 43 receiving yards. Voegeli continued his dominating ways from the receiver spot with 118 yards and two scores. On the defensive side of the ball the Warriors were led once again by team captain Shawn Loiseau (Shrewsbury, Mass.) who racked up 11 tackles including two for a loss. Defensive end Nick DesJardins (Somerville, Mass.) had himself an afternoon as he finished with seven total tackles, one sack and three tackles for a loss. Jimmy Holland (Billerica, Mass.) finished off the game with seven tackles including one for a loss. The Skyhawks were given a solid performance by their starting quarterback Jesse Hunt who finished the game with 287 yards passing and four touchdown passes. Defensively Michael Hogan was all over the field for Stonehill as he finished with a game-high 15 tackles.

Pleasantville, NY– The Merrimack football team defeated the Pace Setters on Saturday afternoon by the score of 63-14 behind a career-day for All-American receiver Isaiah Voegeli (Hyannis, Mass.). Voegeli finished the game with a Northeast-10 Conference record with 17 catches for 264 yards and three touchdowns. With his first catch of the day, Voegeli is now the career receptions and yardage record holder at Merrimack College. The Warriors tied the school record for points in a game which was set last season against Pace. Merrimack's offense went for 640 yards of total offense, fifth most in school history, almost identical to their total of 644 yards last season against the Setters. Senior quarterback Joe Clancy (Newburyport, Mass.) continued to put up huge numbers on Saturday afternoon as he finished the game going 28-for-37 for 418 yards and four touchdowns, including three touchdowns to Voegeli. Running back Quinn McDonough (Medford, Mass.) had a career day for the Warriors in the victory as he finished with 12 carries for 119 yards and three touchdowns and also had two catches for 12 yards. Defensively the Warriors recorded three sacks, eight tackles for a loss, three interceptions and one fumble recovery in the victory. Jesse Fowler (Lynn, Mass.) intercepted a Pace pass in the third quarter and returned it for a 47 yard touchdown. Captain Ryan McCarthy (Newton, Mass.) finished the game with a team-high seven tackles and an interception while freshman Ruben Berger (Naugatuck, CT) collected his first career interception and also had three tackles. Merrimack scored five straight touchdowns in the second quarter to put the game out of reach for the home Setters, making the score 42-0 at half. Fowler finished off the scoring in the opening half with a 47 yard interception return for a touchdown, his first interception of the season. McDonough also had two touchdowns during the run while Jimon Hill (North Chicago, Ill.) and Voegeli chipped in with a touchdown each. The 35 point second quarter is the second most points scored in a quarter in school history as last season against Pace the Warriors scored 42 points in the first quarter.
