MERRIMACK HITS THE ROAD LOOKING FOR BACK TO BACK CONFERENCE WINS
Game 8 - Merrimack College (4-3, 3-3 NE-10) vs. Bentley (5-2, 4-2 NE-10)
UPDATE:
Merrimack hits the road for a conference matchup with the Bentley Falcons on Saturday in the Falcons Homecoming game. Merrimack is coming off of an impressive 81-35 victory over the Saint Asnelm Hawks.
SERIES:
Merrimack has a lifetime 6-8 record against Bentley including a 33-29 come from behind victory over the Falcons last season at Martone-Mejail Field. The Warriors have won three of the last four games against Bentley by an average of 7.3 points per game.
MERRIMACK OFFENSE PUTS UP A NE-10 RECORD 81 POINTS:
The Merrimack football team set a Northeast-10 Conference record for points in a game on Saturday as they downed the Saint Anselm Hawks by the score of 81-35 at Martone-Mejail Field. The Merrimack offense also combined for a NE-10 record 801 yards of total offense, a NCAA high in 2012, as senior quarterback Joe Clancy finished the game with a NE-10 record 553 passing yards and seven touchdowns in only three quarters of action. The Warriors closed out the first half scoring a school-record 53 points while allowing only seven. All-American wide receiver Isaiah Voegeli finished off his impressive game with 10 catches for a NE-10 record 269 yards and four touchdowns in the victory. Sophomore kicker Nick Zwaan also set a NE-10 record as he went 10-10 on point after attempts and also made a 25 yard field goal. The Warriors special teams also scored a touchdown as Colin Hay blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown.
CLANCY BREAKS NE-10 PASSING RECORDS IN VICTORY OVER ST. ANSELM:
Merrimack quarterback Joe Clancy had a historic day on Saturday in the 81-35 victory over Saint Anselm as he broke multiple NE-10 records. Clancy finished the game going 27-for-42 for 553 yards and seven touchdowns. Clancy broke the NE-10 record for passing yards, total yards and tied the record for passing touchdowns. For the season, Clancy has surpassed the 300 yard plateau in six of seven contests while breaking the 500 yard plateau on two other ocassions. He accumulated all his stats in only three quarters of action as he did not take a snap in the final quarter of play. Clancy now leads the NE-10 in all passing categories after his record breaking performance against Saint Anselm.
VOEGELI LEADS NATION IN RECEIVING YARDS:
Senior wide receiver Isaiah Voegeli continued to lead the Warriors and the nation in catches on Saturday as he grabbed 10 passes for a NE-10 record 269 yards and four touchdowns. The four touchdown catches ties a school record, leaving him seven shy of the career touchdown record. For the season, Voegeli has 76 catches for 1,086 yards and 11 touchdowns. He ranks first in the country in total receiving yards, first in receiving yards per game and first in receptions per game with 10.9. He sits atop the NE-10 in all receiving categories and has been named to the NE-10 Honor Roll on six ocassions so far this season including five straight weeks. Voegeli set the NE-10 record last week with 269 receiving yards, breaking his own mark set in week five against Pace.
BROWN BREAKS 100 YARD PLATEAU FOR FIRST TIME:
Freshman wide receiver Jere Brown had his biggest day as a Warrior on Saturday as he broke the 100 yard plateau for the first time as a collegiate player. Brown finished the game with three receptions for 116 yards and two touchdowns. Brown took his first touchdown reception 31 yards for the score and then less than seven minutes later he took another pass from Clancy 71 yards for the touchdown. The 116 receiving yards against Saint Anselm is the most yards in a game this season for a freshman in the Northeast-10 Conference.
CLANCY LEADS NATION IN PASSING YARDS PER GAME:
Senior captain Joe Clancy currently leads the nation in passing yards per game as he is averaging 392.0 yards. He also ranks in the top five nationally in many categories including fifth in total passing yards with 2,744 yards, second in completions per game with 33.3 completions, fourth in completions with 233 and fourth in attempts with 353. All of Clancy's passing numbers rank him first in the conference including his 20 touchdown passes to five different receivers.
SPREADING THE WEALTH:
The Merrimack offense is known to spread the ball around to all of its receivers and on Saturday this was no different as starting quarterback Joe Clancy found 10 different targets during the Warriors 81-35 victory over the Saint Anselm Hawks. Clancy completed 10 passes to his favorite target, Isaiah Voegeli, for 269 yards and four touchdowns. Freshman Jere Brown had a career day in the win as he finished with three grabs for 116 yards and two touchdowns, one from 71 yards and one from 31 yards out. Shane Ferguson also grabbed three balls for 66 yards while Steve Serwon continued to come up with big catches, grabbing two balls for 23 yards and one score. Eight different Warriors recorded at least two catches in the record setting 81 point effort.
SPECIAL TEAMS LOOKS STRONG AGAINST THE HAWKS:
The Merrimack special teams play was at it's best this season on Saturday as Colin Hay collected his first career blocked punt and first career touchdown all in one play. The Warriors kicker, Nick Zwaan, also had a career day as he connected on a NE-10 record 10 extra points while also connecting on a 25 yard field goal in the 81-35 victory. The Warriors also limited the Hawks to two punt returns for two total yards.
TRIPICCHIO CONTINUES TO LEAD DEFENSIVE LINE:
Junior Matt Tripicchio continued to impress on Saturday as he recorded two solo tackles, one tackle for a loss and one pass breakup in the blowout victory. For the season, Tripicchio ranks fifth on the team in total tackles (34), first in tackles for a loss (12), first in sacks (2.5), first in quarterback hurries (6) and fourth in pass break ups (3).
VOEGELI CHASING MERRIMACK SCHOOL RECORDS:
Senior wide receiver Isaiah Voegeli has etched his name in the Merrimack College record books and is looking to establish himself as the best wide receiver ever in school histoy. Voegeli broke the school record for receiving yards in a career against AIC and he now has 3,140receiving yards. Voegeli also ranks first in career receptions and second in career touchdown catches with 31. The record for career touchdown receptions is 38, set by Chris Laham (05-08).
PERRY'S HIGH OCTANE OFFENSE RETURNS IN 2012:
After leading the NE-10 in total offense for the past four seasons, John Perry has his offense once again at the top of the league in 2012. The Warriors rank first in total offense averaging 534.9 yards per game and first in passing averaging 392.0 yards. The 392.0 passing yards and 534.9 total yards per contest rank the Warriors in fthird and second place respectively in the country. Merrimack also ranks second in the conference averaging 40.6 points per contest after setting a Northeast-10 Conference record with 81 points against Saint Anselm on Saturday. The Merrimack offense posesses the leading quarterback and wide receiver in total yards in the conference and have scored 30 or more points in five of seven games while scoring 60 or more in two contests.
WARRIORS SCORING STREAK REACHES 121 GAMES:
Merrimack has scored points in 121 consecutive games heading into this weeks matchup with Bentley, which ranks them in the top 20 for current point streaks. Valdosta State leads the nation by scoring in 248 consecutive games while conference foe Bentley is the only other Northeast-10 school ranked inside the top 20, scoring in 132 straight. The Warriors have scored 60 or more points on three ocassions during the streak including a NE-10 record 81 points in a win against Saint Anselm.

The Merrimack football team pulled out a victory in a showdown of undefeated conference teams, as they won by the score of 33-29 on Saturday afternoon in front of 2,085 fans at Martone-Mejail Field. The win improves the Warriors record to 4-1 (3-0 NE-10) on the season and makes New Haven and Merrimack the only remaining NE-10 schools without a loss in conference play. Offensively the Warriors were led by Clancy who finished the game 10-17 for 159 yards and two touchdowns. Suozzo also chipped in with 124 passing, 58 rushing and six receiving yards and one touchdown. Voegeli led all receivers with 154 yards and a touchdown as he broke the 100-yard receiving plateau for the third consecutive game. Mobley recorded a game-high six receptions for 46 yards and one touchdown. On the defensive side of the ball All-American Shawn Loiseau (Shrewsbury, Mass.) led all tacklers with 12 tackles on the day including a half sack early on in the second half. With his performance on Saturday afternoon, Loiseau needs only six tackles next week against Assumption to break the school record for tackles in a career with 325, which is currently held by Jimmy Festa. Other key performances were handed in by McCarthy who recorded eight tackles and an interception and Holland who racked up seven tackles and an interception.

NORTH ANDOVER, MA– Behind a record setting game by the Merrimack offense, the Warriors downed the Saint Anselm Hawks on Saturday in front of the home fans at Martone-Mejail Field by the score of 81-35. The top ranked offense in the Northeast-10 accounted for a team-record 524 yards in the first half of play while putting up a school record 53 points. The Warriors offense broke several Northeast-10 Conference records as they scored 81 points, recorded 801 total yards and racked up 553 passing yards. Senior quarterback Joe Clancy (Newburyport, Mass.) broke the Northeast-10 Conference record for passing yards in a game with 553 yards, total yards in a game with 561 and tied the conference record for passing touchdowns with seven passing scores. All of Clancy's stats were accumulated in just three quarters of action. Clancy finished the game going 27-for-42 for 553 yards and seven touchdowns while All-American wide receiver Isaiah Voegeli (Hyannis, Mass.) tied a school record with four touchdowns and broke his own NE-10 record with 269 receiving yards. Freshman Jere Brown (Freeport, NY) had a career-day as he finished with three catches for 116 yards and two touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Shane Ferguson (Point Pleasant Beach, NJ) finished his game off with 66 yards on three catches in the victory. Leading the Merrimack rushing attack was senior Jimon Hill (North Chicago, Ill.) who finished with 77 yards on 13 carries while Jesse Defensively the Warriors were led by senior Artis Holt (Baltimore, Md.) who finished the game with a team-high seven tackles and an interception. Justin Hood (Billerica, Mass.) played well for Merrimack as he finished the game with seven tackles while senior captain Ryan McCarthy (Newton, Mass.) finished with an interception and two tackles. Saint Anselm was led offensively by Murphy who finished the game with 357 passing yards and five touchdowns and two interceptions. Leading receiver, Bernard, racked up 160 yards and three touchdowns on 11 catches. Voegeli now leads the NE-10 in all receiving categories as he has racked up 76 catches for 1,086 yards and 11 touchdowns while Clancy also leads the NE-10 in all passing categories. Fowler (Lynn, Mass.) ran for 46 yards.
