Volleyball Rallies To Pick Up Five Set Victory Over Assumption On Senior Day
NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack women's volleyball team picked up a conference victory on Saturday for homecoming as they downed the Assumption Greyhounds in five sets. With the win, Merrimack improves to 10-17 overall and 2-11 in conference play.
"We had a great overall team effort today," said head coach Tj Hajjar. "All three seniors battled through adversity all afternoon and led the team to this victory today."
Game scores against Assumption: 25-20, 22-25, 25-19, 21-25, 15-8.
The Warriors were led by all afternoon by senior Brianna Trabucco (Canton, Mass.) who recorded a career-high 50 assists, nine digs and three kills in the senior day victory. Sophomore Stephanie Sheehan (Smithtown, NY) finished with a team-high 17 kills and 11 digs and fellow sophomore Corrine Gosselin (Lawrence, Mass.) finished with a career-high 15 kills. Senior Jenna Reilly (Northport, NY) finished with seven kills, five digs and five blocks while Shaunda Forcier (Gonic, NH) racked up nine kills and six digs.
Merrimack opened up the first set setting the tone early on as they pulled away and won the set 25-20. The Greyhounds evened up the match in the second set as they downed Merrimack by the score of 25-22.
The two squads alternated wins in the third and fourth sets as Merrimack picked up the 25-19 win in the third set while the Greyhounds downed Merrimack 25-21 in the fourth.
In the fifth and decisive set, The Warriors dominated the action as they picked up the 15-8 victory, securing their third five set victory over Assumption on the season.
The Greyhounds were led by Ryan Merle who finished with a game-high 19 kills and five blocks while setter Kristin Flatekval finished with 48 assists and six digs. Jess Reimers has recorded 12 digs while Katie Trapani finished with 12 digs.
Merrimack will play their final regular season home game on Tuesday as they host the Saint Anselm Hawks at 7 p.m. at Bert Hammel Court.
