Women's Hoops Dominates In Season Opening Exhibition Game; Downs Fisher 95-26

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack women's basketball team opened up their 2012-13 season with an exhibition game victory over the Fisher Falcons by the score of 95-26 in front of the home fans at Bert Hammel Court on Thursday night.

The Warriors had a very spread out offensive attack as six players recorded double figures including Melissa Miller (North Andover, Mass.) who finished with a team-high 16 points and eight rebounds in the victory. Cassi Amenta (Lynn, Mass.) finished off her impressive night with 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds on 5-9 shooting from the floor while junior transfer Shelby Secor (Antioch, Calif.) finished off her first game with the Warriors with 13 points and four rebounds on 5-6 from the field. Last season's leading scorer, Kelly Schatzlein (Tolland, CT), finished with 10 points and eight rebounds in 14 minutes of action. Freshman Tia Scott (New York, NY) had a complete effort in her first action as she had four points, 10 assists and four steals in 22 minutes.

The Warriors dominated the opening seven minutes of action as they led the Falcons 20-2 after a pair of free throws by Madison Ward (Binghamton, NY). Merrimack closed out the half on a 31-10 run, leading Fisher by the score of 51-12 at Half time.

Merrimack shot 50 percent from the floor in the opening half as they went 21-42 including 2-7 from three point range. Fisher finished the half shooting 20 percent including 1-13 from deep.

Merrimack closed out the second half shooting 49 percent from the floor shooting almost a identical 20-41 from the field. The Falcons went 5-20 in the second half of action including 3-10 from three point range.

Porsha Grayson led all Falcons with 17 points, three rebounds and two steals while going 4-10 from three point range. Javanna Bernard finished off her game with six points and a team-high four assists in the loss.

Merrimack will open up regular season action on Tuesday as they will travel to take on the Franklin Pierce Ravens at 8 p.m.
