Volleyball Loses In Four Sets At Le Moyne

SYRACUSE, NY – The Merrimack women's volleyball team was defeated in four sets on Friday night at Le Moyne. With the loss, Merrimack drops to 10-19 overall and 2-12 in NE-10 play.

"After winning the first set we couldn't come up with the big points tonight," said head coach TJ Hajjar. "Le Moyne played well in the final three sets and we did not make any improvements."  

Game scores against Le Moyne: 25-14, 19-25, 15-25, 19-25.

Stephanie Sheehan (Smithtown, NY) finished off her impressive match with a game-high 20 kills and seven digs in the loss. Jackie Jones (Amherst, NH) closed out her night with eight kills, two digs and two blocks while Shaunda Forcier (Gonic, NH) recorded six kills and six digs. Senior Brianna Trabucco (Canton, Mass.) finished off her night with 40 assists and seven digs while freshman Madison Burke (San Jose, Calif.) recorded a team-high 10 digs in the losing effort.

The Warriors dominated the opening set as they defeated the Dolphins by the score of 25-14. Sheehan led the Warriors with seven kills while Trabucco racked up 12 assists. Sophomore Corrine Gosselin (Lawrence, Mass.) played well in the opening set with four kills.

With the score tied at 10 almost midway through the second set, Le Moyne dominated the Warriors as they outscored them 15-9 down the stretch.

The Dolphins dominated the third set as they took the 2-1 lead as they downed the Warriors 25-15. Le Moyne started off strong and never held back towards the end of the set.

With their backs against the wall, Merrimack was not able to win the fourth set as the Dolphins won 25-19.

The Dolphins were led by Bethany Fabian who finished the match with 14 kills and three digs. Morgan McDermott finished with 11 kills and four blocks in the win. Megan Maisonet recorded a double-double with 32 assists and 10 digs.

Merrimack (10-19, 2-11 NE-10) will return to the court on Saturday as they will take on Saint Rose at 12 p.m.
