Women's Basketball Stays at Hammel Court For Game on Tuesday Against Saint Michael's

The Particulars:
The Merrimack women's basketball team will return to Hammel Court for their fourth of five consecutive home games as they will host Saint Michael's on Tuesday. Merrimack is coming off of an 56-44 loss against UMass Lowell on Saturday. Saint Michael's enters the contest after losing their last game against Stonehill 84-56.

About Merrimack:
The Warriors are led by senior captain Gennifer Roy who is averaging 15.3 points and 3.7 rebounds per contest this season. Roy is coming off of a 15 point outing against UMass Lowell, shooting 4-10 from the field, grabbing four rebounds and dishing out four assists. Kelly Schatzlein is leadng the team in scoring, averaging 15.8 points and 10.2 rebounds per contest. Schatzlein is coming off of a 11 point and 17 rebound effort against UMass Lowell on Saturday. Schatzlein has recorded 13 double-doubles this season. The freshman guard duo of Chloe Rothman and Allison Wagner have performed well so far with Rothman averaging 9.0 points, 5.2 assists and 3.9 rebounds and Wagner averaging 6.5 points and hitting a team-high 31 threes.

About The Competition:
The Purple Knights enter Tuesday's contest with a 10-13 overall record after losing their last game against Stonehill by the score of 71-56. Saint Michael's is led offensively by Nicole Adach who is averaging 13.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Coreen Hennessy is averaging 12.7 points and 2.0 assists per game so far this season. Megan Olsen is contributing with 8.7 points and 3.5 rebounds per game this season while starting only 11 games. The Purple Knights are holding their opponents to only 58.9 points per game and their opponents are only shooting 69.4 percent against them from the free throw line.

All-Time Series:
The Warriors are 15-23 all-time against Saint Michael's. The Warriors were defeated by the Purple Knights earlier this season by the score of 60-40.

Last Game (Merrimack 44 - UMass Lowell 56):
The Merrimack women's basketball team was defeated on Saturday afternoon by the score of 56-44 by the UMass Lowell River Hawks. The Warriors shot a better percentage from the field than their opponnents but the River Hawks attempted 29 more shots from the field. Merrimack also turned the ball over 29 times, turning into 23 points the other way for UMass Lowell. Kelly Schatzlein was dominant once again down low against the RIver Hawks as she recorded her 13th double-double of the season racking up 11 points and 17 rebounds. On the season Schatzlein averaged 14.5 points and 19.5 rebounds per contest against the River Hawks, recording two double-doubles and a career high 22 rebounds in their first meeting. Gennifer Roy continued to rack up points for the Warriors on Saturday scoring 15 points. With her first basket on Saturday Roy moved into 4th place on the Merrimack College All-Time scoring list with 1,374 career points. 

Roy Moves Into Fourth Place On all-time scoring charts:
Senior guard Gennifer Roy had a solid performance on Saturday as she recorded a team-high 15 points in the Warriors loss. Roy finished the game going 4-10 from the floor and 6-6 from the free throw line. Roy played 40 minutes, grabbing four rebounds and dishing out four assists. With her performance on Saturday Roy  moved into 4th place on the all-time scoring list with 1,374 career points. Roy is 201 points shy of third place on the Merrimack womens basketball scoring charts. The senior has led the team in scoring 10 times this season. Roy is averaging 15.3 points and 3.7 rebounds per game this year.

Schatzlein Ranks Second in The Conference in Rebounding:
Junior forward Kelly Schatzlein continued to pile up great numbers against the River Hawks as she racked up 11 points and 17 rebounds in Saturday's loss. Schatzlein is second in the conference in rebounds with 10.2 per contest and is also fourth in the conference in field goal percentage, shooting 56.2 percent. Schatzlein is now averaging 15.8 points, 10.2 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per contest this season. Schatzlein has racked up a team-high 13 double-doubles through 23 games this year and has led the team in rebounding in 18 of 22 games.

Warriors Third In The COnference In Field Goal Percentage:
Merrimack is third in the conference overall shooting the basketball this season, making 44.0 percent of their shots. On Saturday the Warrors shot only 30 percent from the floor in the first half as the River Hawks were able to get off 17 more shots attempts in the half. The Warriors shot better in the second half as they were only outscored by three, finishing the game shooting 34.9 percent from the floor and 84.6 percent from the free throw line. Valerie Avebe led the way shooting the ball as she was 3-3 on the afternoon, while Gennifer Roy went 6-6 from the free throw line on the day.

Offensive Rebounding And Turnovers Hinder Warriors:
The Warriors two biggest problems all year have been allowing their opponents to grab offensive rebounds and turning the ball over. This was the case once again on Saturday as the Warriors committed 29 turnovers which led to 23 River Hawk points. Merrimack was also not able to prevent the River Hawks from getting on the offensive glass as they hauled in 16 offensive rebounds, giving them 29 more shots from the field for the game then the Warriors. 
 
Merrimack's New Head Coach Monique LeBlanc: 
Monique LeBlanc is enterng her first season as head coach of the Merrimack Warriors. LeBlanc brings over seven years of division I coaching experience to North Andover. LeBlanc spent the last three seasons as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Northern Arizona University.
