Women's Basketball to Honor Roy and Avebe on Saturday as a Part of Senior Day

The Particulars:
The Merrimack women's basketball team will wrap up their five game home stand on Saturday afternoon as they will be honoring their two seniors as a part of senior day festivities. Merrimack is coming off of a 69-49 victory against Saint Michael's on Tuesday. Southern New Hampshire enters the contest after winning their last game against Stonehill 66-59.

About Merrimack:
The Warriors are led by senior captain Gennifer Roy who is averaging 15.7 points and 3.7 rebounds per contest this season. Roy is coming off of a 24 point outing against Saint Michael's, shooting 9-15 from the field, grabbing three rebounds and dishing out two assists. Kelly Schatzlein is leadng the team in scoring, averaging 15.9 points and 10.2 rebounds per contest. Schatzlein is coming off of a 18 point and 10 rebound effort against Saint Michael's on Tuesday. Schatzlein has recorded 14 double-doubles this season. The freshman guard duo of Chloe Rothman and Allison Wagner have performed well so far with Rothman averaging 8.6 points, 5.3 assists and 3.8 rebounds and Wagner averaging 6.5 points and hitting a team-high 33 threes.

About The Competition:
The Penmen enter Saturday's contest with a 18-8 overall record after winning their last game against Stonehill by the score of 66-59. Southern New Hampshire is led offensively by Sloane Sorrell who is averaging 14.9 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Michelle DeRoma is averaging 9.6 points and 2.2 rebounds per game so far this season. Christine Duffy is contributing with 8.5 points and 8.2 assists per game this season while starting all 26 games. The Penmen are dishing out a conference high 15.5 assists per contest this season with Duffy leading the way with 8.2 per game.

All-Time Series:
The Warriors are 26-19 all-time against Southern NH. Merrimack lost the meeting earlier this season by the score of 63-74.

Last Game (Merrimack 69 - Saint Michael's 49):
The Merrimack women's basketball team defeated the Saint Michael's Purple Knights on Tuesday night in front of the home crowd by the score of 69-49. The Warriors shot 52.7 percent from the floor for the game and connected on 9-13 from three point range. Gennifer Roy led the way for the Warriors as she racked up 24 points in her second to last home game of her career. Roy went 9-15 from the floor including 4-5 from three point range to go along with three rebounds and two assists. Kelly Schatzlein continued her solid play as she racked up her 14th double-double of the season against Saint Michael's as she scored 18 points and hauled in 10 rebounds. Jaclyn Lyons had one of her best performances of the season on Tuesday as she scored 10 points on 4-6 from the floor to go along with four assists and three rebounds in the victory. Katie Ganser had seven points, three rebounds and two assists in the victory, off of the bench. 

Roy Moves Into Fourth Place On All-Time Scoring Charts:
Senior guard Gennifer Roy had another good performance on Tuesday as she recorded a team-high 24 points in the Warriors victory. Roy finished the game going 9-15 from the floor and 4-5 from three point range. Roy played 40 minutes, grabbing three rebounds and dishing out two assists. With her performance on Tuesday Roy is in 4th place on the all-time scoring list with 1,398 career points. Roy is 177 points shy of third place on the Merrimack womens basketball scoring charts. The senior has led the team in scoring 11 times this season. Roy is averaging 15.7 points and 3.7 rebounds per game this year.

Schatzlein Ranks Second In The Conference in Rebounding:
Junior forward Kelly Schatzlein continued to pile up great numbers on Tuesday night as she racked up 18 points and 10 rebounds in the victory. Schatzlein is second in the conference in rebounds with 10.2 per contest and is also fourth in the conference in field goal percentage, shooting 56.4 percent. Schatzlein is now averaging 15.9 points, 10.2 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per contest this season. Schatzlein has racked up a team-high 14 double-doubles through 24 games this year and has led the team in rebounding in 19 of 24 games.

Warriors Third In The Conference In Field Goal Percentage:
Merrimack is third in the conference overall shooting the basketball this season, making 44.4 percent of their shots. On Tuesday the Warrors shot 52.7 percent from the floor in the victory. Merrimack went 29-55 from the field and 9-13 from behind the arc. The Warriors shot a better percentage in the first half of play but they were still able to score 34 points in the second half of play. Kelly Schatzlein and Gennifer Roy both went 9-15 from the floor and Roy went 4-5 from behind the arc. Jaclyn Lyons came off the bench and performed well going 4-6 from the floor and scoring 10 points.

Points In The Paint And Bench Scoring Propel The Warriors:
The Warriors had a good overall team effort on Tuesday night as they defeated the Purple Knights by the score of 69-49. Merrimack dominated the ponts in the paint category by the score of 24-16. The Warriors bench also performed at a high level Tuesday as they scored a combined 19 points. Jaclyn Lyonsracked up 10 points and Katie Ganser scored seven in 22 minutes of action.
 
Merrimack's New Head Coach Monique LeBlanc: 
Monique LeBlanc is enterng her first season as head coach of the Merrimack Warriors. LeBlanc brings over seven years of division I coaching experience to North Andover. LeBlanc spent the last three seasons as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Northern Arizona University.
