Women's Hoops Back Home For Conference Tilt With Stonehill on Saturday

The Merrimack women's basketball team
will return to Hammel Court for a conference showdown against Stonehill on Saturday afternoon. Merrimack is coming off of an 51-68 loss at the hands of the #5 Bentley Falcons on Tuesday night. Stonehill enters the contest after winning their last contest against Franklin Pierce by the score of 68-57.
About Merrimack:
The Warriors are led by Gennifer Roy who is averaging a team-high 15.9 points and 3.7 rebounds per contest this season. Roy is coming off of a 15 point outing against Bentley, shooting 6-13 from the field and 2-4 from the free throw line. Kelly Schatzlein is second on the team in scoring averaging 15.4 points and 9.9 rebounds per contest. Schatzlein is coming off of a six point and five rebound effort against Bentley on Tuesday. Schatzlein has recorded 11 double-doubles this season. The freshman guard duo of Chloe Rothman and Allison Wagner have performed well so far with Rothman averaging 9.4 points, 5.2 assists and 3.9 rebounds and Wagner averaging 6.4 points and hitting a team-high 28 threes.

The Skyhawks enter Saturday's contest with a 11-9 overall record after winning their last game against Franklin Pierce by the score of 68-57. Stonehill is led offensively by Mary Louise Dixon who is averaging 12.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game. Asia Ewing is averaging 11.3 points and 8.0 rebounds per game so far this season. Priscilla Dodoo is contributing with 8.8 points and 3.6 rebounds per game this season while starting all 20 games. The Skyhawks are shooting an amazing 42.2 percent from the floor this season while holding their opponents to 41.8 percent from the floor.

The Merrimack women's basketball team was defeated on Tuesday night by the #5 ranked Bentley Falcons on the road by the score of 51-68. The Warriors were led offensively by Gennifer Roy who scored 15 points on 6-13 from the field and 2-4 from the free throw line. Roy also recorded a career-high six assists in the loss and two rebounds in 39 minutes of action. The Warriors led for some of the first half but the hot shooting Falcons took the nine point advantage into the locker room. Bentley shot 42.6 percent from the field and made 16-18 free throws in the victory. Making her second start of the season Valerie Avebe scored 12 points and grabbed three rebounds for the Warriors. Allison Wagner also scored in double figures for the game scoring 10 points on 4-12 from the field and 2-8 from three point range. Kelly Schatzlein had a quiet night offensively only scoring six points and grabbing five rebounds. Cassi Amenta grabbed a team-high seven rebounds for the Warriors off the bench.
Roy Continues To Climb All-Time Scoring Charts:
Senior guard Gennifer Roy had another steady performance on Tuesday as she scored 15 points. Roy finished the game going 6-13 from the floor and 2-4 from the free throw line. Roy played 39 minutes, grabbing two rebounds and dishing out a career-high six assists in the loss. With her performance on Tuesday Roy is in 5th place on the all-time scoring list with 1,340 career points. Roy is just 20 points shy of fourth place on the Merrimack womens basketball scoring charts. The senior has led the team in scoring nine times this season. Roy is averaging 15.9 points and 3.7 rebounds per game this year.
Schatzlein Ranks Third In The Conference In Rebounding:
Junior forward Kelly Schatzlein continued her steady play for the Warriors as she recorded six points and five rebounds in the loss. Schatzlein is third in the conference in rebounds with 9.9 per contest and second in blocks per contest with 1.7 a game. She is also third in the conference in field goal percentage, shooting 55.7 percent. Schatzlein is now averaging 15.4 points, 9.9 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per contest this season. Schatzlein has racked up a team-high 11 double-doubles through twenty games this year and has led the team in rebounding in 15 of 20 games.
Merrimack Bench Plays Solid But Turnovers Still A Problem:
The Bentley bench outscored Merrimack 14-8 on Tuesday night but Jaclyn Lyons had an impact off the bench going 3-7 from the field and scoring six points. Lyons also grabbed three rebounds and dished out an assist in the loss. Freshman Cassi Amenta played 18 minutes and had an impact on the boards leading the team with seven rebounds and added two points after an offensive rebound. Amenta played solid defensively protecting the basket and forcing Bentley to turn the ball over 16 times on the game. Bentley used 16 Merrimack turnovers to score 13 of their own points in the victory.
Avebe Continues To Impress:
Seeing her second start of the season, senior Valerie Avebe scored 12 points and grabbed three rebounds. Avebe played 21 minutes on Tuesday going 6-7 from the field. Avebe also hauled in two offensive rebounds leading to four Warrior points on the night.
Merrimack's New Head Coach Monique LeBlanc:
Monique LeBlanc is enterng her first season as head coach of the Merrimack Warriors. LeBlanc brings over seven years of division I coaching experience to North Andover. LeBlanc spent the last three seasons as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Northern Arizona University.
