Women's Hoops Looks For Consecutive Victories on Wednesday Hosting Saint Anselm

The Particulars:
The Merrimack women's basketball team will return to Hammel Court for their second of five consecutive home games on Wednesday as they will host St. Anselm at 5:30 pm. Merrimack is coming off of an 74-58 victory over Stonehill on Saturday. St. Anselm enters the contest after losing their last game to Bentley by the score of 63-45.
About Merrimack:
The Warriors are led by senior captain Gennifer Roy who is averaging 15.4 points and 3.7 rebounds per contest this season. Roy is coming off of a seven point outing against Stonehill, shooting 3-6 from the field and 1-3 from three point range. Kelly Schatzlein is leadng the team in scoring averaging 15.9 points and 10.0 rebounds per contest. Schatzlein is coming off of a 25 point and 12 rebound effort against Stonehill on Saturday. Schatzlein has recorded 12 double-doubles this season. The freshman guard duo of Chloe Rothman and Allison Wagner have performed well so far with Rothman averaging 9.5 points, 5.2 assists and 3.9 rebounds and Wagner averaging 6.7 points and hitting a team-high 29 threes.
About The Competition:
The Hawks enter Wednesday's contest with a 12-11 overall record after losing their last game against Bentley by the score of 63-45. Saint Anselm is led offensively by Megan Howard who is averaging 11.3 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Curran Leighton is averaging 7.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game so far this season. Tori Lehr is contributing with 6.1 points and 4.1 rebounds per game this season while starting only 10 games so far. The Hawks are holding their opponents to only 53.2 points per contest this season, while holding them to 28.9 percent shooting from three point range.

The Warriors are 23-37 all-time against Saint Anselm. The Warriors were defeated by the Hawks earlier this season on the road by the score of 70-64 in overtime.
Last Game (MERRIMACK 74 - STONEHILL 58):
The Merrimack women's basketball team defeated the Stonehill Skyhawks by the score of 74-58 on Saturday afternoon in front of the home crowd. The Warriors shot 57.8 percent from the field in the game and made 19 of 24 free throw attempts. The Warriors led by as many as 20 points in the second half as their defense held the Skyhawks to 36 percent from the field. Kelly Schatzlein was dominant once again for the Warriors as she recorded a game-high 25 points and hauled in 12 rebounds in the victory. CHloe Rothman had another solid game running the point for the Warriors as she scored 11 points and dished out six assists. Allison Wagner scored 12 points on 4-7 from the field and also had two steals on the defensive side of the ball. Freshman Cassi Amenta came up with a strong performance on Saturday afternoon as she hauled in a career-high 11 rebounds in the win. Amenta also dished out a career-high two assists for the Warriors. Merrimack controlled the points in the paint category outscoring Stonehill 40-28 for the game. The Merrimack bench also outscored the Skyhawks by the score of 12-10. The Warriors turned the ball over 16 times but limted the Skyhawks to 15 points off of those turnovers.
Roy Continues To Climb All-Time Scoring Charts:
Senior guard Gennifer Roy had a quiet performance on Saturday as she scored seven points. Roy finished the game going 3-6 from the floor and 1-3 from three point range. Roy played 36 minutes, grabbing three rebounds and dishing out three assists in the victory. With her performance on Saturday Roy is in 5th place on the all-time scoring list with 1,347 career points. Roy is just 13 points shy of fourth place on the Merrimack womens basketball scoring charts. The senior has led the team in scoring nine times this season. Roy is averaging 15.4 points and 3.7 rebounds per game this year.
Schatzlein Ranks Third In The Conference In Rebounding:
Junior forward Kelly Schatzlein continued to pile up great numbers against the Skyhawks as she racked up 25 points and 12 rebounds in Saturday's win. Schatzlein is third in the conference in rebounds with 10.0 per contest and second in blocks per contest with 1.7 a game. She is also third in the conference in field goal percentage, shooting 57.3 percent. Schatzlein is now averaging 15.9 points, 10.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per contest this season. Schatzlein has racked up a team-high 12 double-doubles through 21 games this year and has led the team in rebounding in 16 of 21 games.
Warriors Control The Paint And Shoot 58 Percent From The Floor:
Merrimack is second in the conference overall shooting the basketball this season, making 44.2 percent of their shots. On Saturday afternoon the Warriors improved this number by shooting 57.8 percent from the floor for the game and making 79.2 percent of their free throws. The Warriors were 26-45 from the floor and 3-8 from three point range for the game. Kelly Schatzlein led the way for the Warriors going 11-13 from the field and 3-3 from the free throw line. Roy, Rothman and Wagner each shot over 50 percent for the game for the Warriors in the victory. Another key to the win on Saturday was points in the paint. Merrimack won that battle, outscoring Stonehill by the score of 40-28. Schatzlein was the main contributor for the Warriors scoring 22 points within the paint for the game. Valerie Avebe chipped in with four points within the paint.
Merrimack's New Head Coach Monique LeBlanc:
Monique LeBlanc is enterng her first season as head coach of the Merrimack Warriors. LeBlanc brings over seven years of division I coaching experience to North Andover. LeBlanc spent the last three seasons as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Northern Arizona University.
