Men's Tennis Blanks Saint Anselm, 9-0
MANCHESTER, NH - The Merrimack men's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory at Saint Anselm Sunday morning. The Warriors improved to 5-2 on the season and 3-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference with the win. The Hawks sink to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in league matches with the loss.
Merrimack rolled through doubles play to own a 3-0 lead at the start of singles action. Vince Bellino (Amesbury, MA) and Chris Barnhart (Longmeadow, MA) combined to claim an 8-1 win at the No. 2 position. Max Eppley (Malaga, Spain) and Sean Pahler (Rumson, NJ) teamed up to prevail 8-3 at the top slot. Chris Toegemann (Narragansett, RI) and Petar Golijanin (Novi Sad, Serbia) capped off the doubles sweep with an 8-5 decision at the No. 3 spot.
Eppley picked up a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the No. 1 singles slot while Golijanin won 6-3, 6-0 at the second spot. Bellino posted a pair of 6-2 wins to triumph at the third singles match.
Pahler and Barnhart breezed to 6-0, 6-0 victories each at the fourth and fifth slots, respectively. Toegemann dropped just one game en route to a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 6 position for the Warriors.
"We played extremely well today and I was proud of the way our team competed to earn the win," said first-year head coach Sean Tully.
Merrimack will host non-league foe Chestnut Hill March 18 at 10 am.
