Men's Tennis Suffers 6-1 Loss at Non-Conference Foe Colgate Sunday
HAMILTON, NY- The Merrimack men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision at Colgate Sunday afternoon in non-conference action. The Warriors slip to 4-2 overall and the Raiders rise to 5-3 on the season.
Chris Barnhart (Longmeadow, MA) and Vince Bellino (Amesbury, MA) picked up Merrimack's lone double victory of the afternoon. The duo prevailed with an 8-2 result at the No. 3 position. Petar Golijanin (Novi Sad, Serbia) and Chris Toegemann (Narragansett, RI) were edged 7-3 in a tiebreaker at the second slot. Max Eppley (Malaga, Spain) and Sean Pahler (Rumson, NJ) endured an 8-2 loss at the top doubles spot.
Pahler claimed the Warriors' only point in the match with a win at the No. 4 singles position. At the second singles spot, Golijanin rebounded from dropping the first set 6-4 to take the second 7-4 in a tiebreaker. Golijanin suffered a 6-0 loss in the decisive third set.
"We battled today against a really good team. We were close in some matches which shows our determination," said head coach Sean Tully. "Today's match will prepare us for the upcoming matches against quality opponents."
