Men's Tennis Tops Adelphi 7-2, Extends Winning Streak to Four Matches

WEST HEMPSTEAD, NY- The Merrimack men's tennis team claimed its fourth-straight victory Sunday evening, defeating Adelphi 7-2 on the road. The Warriors improved to 11-5 overall and moved into a three-way tie atop the league standings with a 7-0 mark. The Panthers sink to 4-8 on the season and 2-7 in the Northeast-10 Conference.

"We played really well today, especially in doubles to keep our strong play going," said head coach Sean Tully. "We did a great job of competing today against a good team. Although our next couple of matches are non-conference, they are still very important so we will look for continued success."

Merrimack secured a 3-0 lead at the start of singles action with a sweep of the doubles points. The Warriors' top duo of Max Eppley (Malaga, Spain) and Sean Pahler (Rumson, NJ) coasted to an 8-2 win. Chris Barnhart (Longmeadow, MA) and Vince Bellino (Amesbury, MA) earned an 8-4 victory at the No. 2 spot. Petar Golijanin (Novi Sad, Serbia) and Chris Toegemann (Narragansett, RI) prevailed 8-4 at the third slot.

The visitors captured four singles points to remain unbeaten in conference matches this season. Eppley triumphed 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 2 position while Golijanin cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the third spot. Pahler picked up a 6-3, 6-0 win at the No. 5 slot while Toegemann swept an eight-game pro-set at the sixth position.

Barnhart dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision at the top spot while Bellino fell 6-1, 7-5 at the No. 4 slot.

Up next, Merrimack will travel to Tufts April 4 for a non-league contest.
