Women's Volleyball Downed By Lynn And Texas A&M International on Saturday

Fort Lauderdale, FL – The Merrimack volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon at the Sharks Classic to Lynn University and Texas A&M International, both by the score of 3-0.

Game scores against Lynn were 18-25, 12-25, 14-25.

The Warriors were led on the afternoon by a pair of sophomores as Stephanie Sheehan (Smithtown, NY) recorded five kills and five digs and Corrine Gosselin (Lawrence, Mass.) recorded five kills and four digs on the afternoon. Freshman Hannah Pavlik (Monument, CO) racked up a team-high six digs in the defeat while fellow freshman Madison Burke (San Jose, Calif.) finished with four digs and one kill.

The first set opened up with an even start as the Warriors tied the score at three after a Lynn attack error. Merrimack was not able to sustain their early successes and dropped the opening set by the score of 25-18.

Sheehan and Gosselin opened up the second set with a pair of kills but the Warriors fell behind 12-4 early on. Lynn closed out the second set on a 13-8 run to give them the second set victory.

In the third set it was more of the same for the Warriors as they were unable to climb out of an early hole, falling 25-14.

Lynn was led offensively by Brittany Brown who finished the match with a total of nine kills and a team-high five blocks while Abbey Brokop and Mandy McIntosh recorded 17 and 12 assists respectively.

 "Against Lynn I thought our girls came out real tough and battled but we just couldn't get the crucial points when we needed them," said head coach TJ Hajjar. "Against Texas A&M International we hung tough but they were too much for us offensively."

Sheehan once again led the Warriors attack as she recorded a team-high 10 kills, two digs and one service ace. Burke finished the match with nine digs and three kills while fellow freshman Pavlik finished with a team-high 10 kills.

The Warriors took the 2-0 lead early on in the opening set but they were not able to sustain their early advantage, falling 25-16.

The Dustdevils dominated the second set as they defeated the Warriors 25-7.

The Warriors hung tough early on as they were down 5-4 after a nice block by Gosselin and Aliya Winker (Arlington, VA), but Texas A&M International was too much, winning the third set 25-17.

Merrimack (0-4, 0-0 NE-10) will return to action Tuesday September 4 as they will open their conference slate by traveling to UMass Lowell for a 7 p.m. start.
