Women's Tennis Picks Up The 7-2 Victory Over Le Moyne
NORTH ANDOVER, MA– The Merrimack women's tennis team opened up their 2012-13 season with an impressive 7-2 victory over the Le Moyne Dolphins on Sunday. The Warriors forfeited one doubles match and one singles match on the afternoon, their only losses.
"I was very impressed with how our girls played in singles this afternoon," said head coach Sean Tully. "Our upperclassmen had a strong performance to propel us to victory."
In singles action the Warriors won all five matches that they competed in as sophomore Shakee Messina (Caracas, Venezuela) dominated her opponent by the score of 6-3, 6-1 for her first victory of the season. Senior Mollie Fitzgerald (Melrose, Mass.) won her match in easy fashion defeating her opponent by the score of 6-3, 6-4 while junior Kara Hole (Portsmouth, RI) turned away the Le Moyne foe by the score of 6-1, 6-3.
In doubles action, Messina and sophomore Rachel Muller (North Andover, Mass.) dominated their opponents by the score of 8-1. The combo of Fitzgerald and Hole also defeated their opponents by the score of 8-1 to clinch the victory for Merrimack in their first match of the season.
