Waldie, Bergquist Net Weekly NE-10 Honors
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – After helping Merrimack post an undefeated, two-win week to extend its current win streak to four games, junior forward Candace Waldie (North Andover, Mass.) and senior goalkeeper Kerri Bergquist (Mashpee, Mass.) have been named the Northeast-10 Conference Player and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively.
Last week, the Warriors cruised to a pair of non-conference victories, first cruising to a 7-0 victory in their home opener against Saint Michael's last Wednesday before downing AIC on the road, 6-0, on Saturday afternoon.
Both Waldie and Bergquist were at the forefront of those victories, while the former enjoyed a particularly dominant stretch over the week. The North Andover, Mass., product scored an unbelievable six goals in the Warriors' win against the Purple Knights, setting a new school record for goals and points (12) scored in a single game. She added four more points (1g, 2a) on Saturday against the Yellow Jackets to raise her nation-leading point total to 23 (10g, 3a) in five games.
Bergquist, meanwhile, managed to record back-to-back shutouts to lower her goals against average to 1.80 on the year while raising her save percentage to an impressive .852. The senior netminder recorded five saves against Saint Michael's and three against the Yellow Jackets to earn the clean sheets.
Merrimack will take to the turf three more times this week, starting with a home bout with Franklin Pierce tonight before traveling to Southern Connecticut on Thursday and finally rounding out the week on Sunday at home against Saint Anselm.
