BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. – The Merrimack women's soccer team was stymied over 90 minutes of action, as the Warriors were blanked, 1-0, against tournament host Dowling College in the final match of the Dowling Tournament on Sunday afternoon.

Erika Krumholz struck on a set piece from 35 yards out in the 14th minute of the first half, and that was all that the Golden Lions (2-0) would need, as the Warriors (1-1) only managed to send three shots on net over the course of the match.

Merrimack managed 10 shot attempts as a team, including a team-leading three attempts by junior Danielle Dion (Grosvenordale, Conn.), but Melissa Guglielmo posted a clean sheet thanks to her three saves.

With no score just more than 10 minutes into the game, a Merrimack foul led to a direct kick from about 35 yards out. Krumholz laced a shot that found the upper-left corner of the net, beating Warrior goalkeeper Nicole Curtis (Billerica, Mass.) and handing the Golden Lions an early 1-0 advantage.

That would be the closest either team would get to scoring over the remainder of the game, as the Warriors were blanked for the first time in the young season.

Merrimack held a 10-9 edge in shot attempts over the course of the game, as well as a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

The Warriors return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 5, with a non-conference matchup at Queens set for 4 p.m.
