Women's Tennis Falls 8-1 At Chestnut Hill

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack women's tennis team was defeated on Friday afternoon by the score of 8-1 on the road at Chestnut Hill. With the loss, Merrimack drops to 1-1 on the season.

Playing with only five players for the second straight match the Warriors were forced to forfeit one doubles match and one singles match, trailing 2-0 right off the start.

Shakee Messina (Caracas, Venezuela) was the lone Warrior to win a match on the afternoon as she downed her opponent by the score of 3-6, 6-3 and 10-3. Senior Mollie Fitzgerald (Melrose, Mass.) put up a solid fight in her singles match but was defeated by the score of 2-6, 5-7. Katie Veasey (Atkinson, NH) competed in only singles, falling 6-1, 6-1.

The Warriors were not able to pick up a doubles victory on the afternoon as Messina and Rachel Muller (North Andover, Mass.) were defeated 8-5 and FitzGerald and Kara Hole (Portsmouth, RI) were beat 8-1.

The Warriors will return to action tomorrow as they will travel to Philadelphia, Pa. to take part in the ITA Regionals.
