Women's Crew Picks Up First Varsity Wins In Program History
Bedford, MA - The Merrimack women's crew team dominated the field on Saturday afternoon in the New Bedford Chase as they took home two gold medals and one silver medal in their first regatta as a varsity team.
"It was a great learning experience for the girls," said head coach Tim Desrosiers. "The coxswains in particular really did a great job dealing with a very tricky course. It's nice to get some varsity wins under our belt but we also need to realize that we have some very tough competition coming up in the next few weeks leading up to the Head of the Charles."
The Warriors took gold in the Women's Collegiate Varsity 8+, as well as gold and silver and in Women's Collegiate Varsity 4+. This was the first time Merrimack competed as and against other varsity crews, as last year they competed as novice, so the two race victories mark the first two varsity wins in program history.
