Volleyball Downed By Southern New Hampshire, 3-1
Manchester, NH – The Merrimack women's volleyball team was downed on Saturday afternoon by the Southern New Hampshire Penmen by the score of 3-1. With the loss, Merrimack falls to 5-7 overall and 0-1 in the NE-10.
"We played well in spurts today but we were not consistent enough to pull out the victory," said head coach TJ Hajjar. "We allowed them to go on too many runs this afternoon which unfortunately cost us the match."
Game scores against Southern New Hampshire: 19-25, 25-19, 16-25, 21-25.
Brianna Trabucco (Canton, Mass.) continued her solid play as she recorded her third double-double of the season with 39 assists and 10 digs. Leading the way offensively once again was sophomore Stephanie Sheehan (Smithtown, NY) who recorded a match-high 17 kills and nine digs in the loss. Senior Jenna Reilly (Northport, NY) played well for the Warriors as she compiled 10 kills and a team-high four blocks. Freshman Madison Burke (San Jose, Calif.) led the Warriors with 19 digs.
The Warriors opened up the first set with a 6-1 run to take the early 7-3 lead but they were unable to maintain the lead down the stretch, falling by the score of 25-19.
The Warriors dominated the second set as they had a team attack percentage of .333 in the 25-19 victory. Sheehan led Merrimack with five kills in the set while Sophomore Corrine Gosselin (Lawrence, Mass.) and Shaunda Forcier (Gonic, NH) each recorded two kills in the second set victory.
The Penmen took over the match in the third set as they defeated Merrimack by the score of 25-16.
The two teams played a tightly contested game in the fourth, but the Penmen prevailed and defeated Merrimack by the score of 25-21.
The Penmen were led by Emma Houlihan who finished with a team-high 15 kills and three digs. Erica Solomon recorded a double-double as she had 14 kills and 21 digs in the win.
Merrimack (5-7, 0-1 NE-10) will return to the court tomorrow as they will play two games. The Warriors will take on Assumption at 1 p.m. and Saint Anselm at 3 p.m.
