Women's Crew Competes In The Textile River Regatta On Sunday

Lowell, Mass. – The Merrimack women's crew team participated in the Textile River Regatta on Sunday afternoon in Lowell, racing as a varsity squad for the first time in a major race.
"Overall we did fairly well," said head coach Tim Desrosiers. "It was our first major race day fielding a varsity squad and the competition was a huge step above anything we have rowed against before."
The Warriors raced two boats in the Women's Varsity 4+ race on Sunday afternoon and collected a 7th place finish and a 14th place finish out of 17 total boats. The 7th place boat of Cosxwain Cary Bannan (Hingham, Mass.), Haley Pare (Coventry, RI), Kaylee McKenna (Georgetown, Texas), Aubrey O'Neil (Pawcatuck,CT) and Katie Mermelstein (North Andover, Mass.) defeated two other division II teams in Franklin Pierce and UMass Lowell with a time of 24:37.
In the women's Novice 4+ race the Merrimack team of coxswain Karissa Finnigan (Medford, Mass.), Zoie Lee (Brookline, Mass.), Katie Fazio, Stephanie Giordano (Leominster, Mass.) and Kaylin English took home a 4th place finish.
In Varsity 8+ action, the Merrimack team of Bannan, Pare, McKenna, O'Neil, Mermelstein, Jessie Eichel (North Chelmsford, Mass.), Lydia Staschke (Guilford, CT), Leanne Barron (Tamworth, NH), and Stephanie Beaudry Lowell, Mass.) put in a solid effort as they picked up the 11th place finish out of 18 boats.
The Warriors will return to the water on Saturday, October 14 as they will travel to Pembroke, NH for the New Hampshire Championships.
