NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Senior Brian Clevesy (Groveland, Mass.) found the back of the net for his first collegiate goal in the 103rd minute, propelling the Merrimack men's soccer team to a 1-0, double-overtime victory over Molloy on Saturday night at Martone-Mejail Field.

The Warriors improve to 2-1-1 on the young season and 1-1-1 in their third overtime contest in four games, while the Lions drop to 2-1.

Clevesy untied a scoreless match just 2:51 into the second 10-minute overtime session, as the Groveland, Mass., native fielded a deflection off of a corner kick service and unleashed a shot from the top of the box that ricocheted off a defender and past Molloy goalkeeper Michael Hunter to seal the win for the home side.

The Merrimack defense was once again up to the challenge, as sophomore Jose Silva (Northborough, Mass.) recorded three saves en route to his – and the team's – second shutout of the season. Through four games, the Warriors are now allowing an average of 0.66 goals per game.

The Warriors garnered numerous opportunities throughout the evening, as the home side dominated play in most of the first overtime session and saw plenty of near misses by virtue of their 27-5 advantage in shot attempts.

To the visitor's credit, Hunter turned in an impressive effort with a nine-save performance, including six saves in the second half alone to keep Molloy in the contest.

The Warriors held a dominating 12-2 advantage in corner kicks, while Molloy were whistled for one more foul (17-16) than the Warriors.

Next up for Merrimack is a home date with nationally ranked Southern New Hampshire, as the Warriors will entertain the Penmen in a Northeast-10 Conference clash on Tuesday, Sept. 11. First whistle is set for 7 p.m.
