NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – After coming off a huge, 2-1, victory over No. 8 American International last Saturday, the women's soccer team returns to its home turf to play host to the Skyhawks of Stonehill College for a Northeast-10 clash Wednesday night under the lights at Martone-Mejail Field.

Last Time Out

The women's soccer team delivered No. 8 American International its first loss of the season this past Saturday. 

Entering the 10 minute of play, sophomore Jenna Savi (Dedham, Mass.) was able to find the back of the net, off a clean, cut pass in the middle of the box from junior Sarah Coakley (Medway, Mass.) to put Merrimack ahead, 1-0.

Just five minutes after Savi's goal, senior Sami Brady (Rockland, Mass.) made a move on the right side of the field and able to find  the left side of the net, to extend the lead to 2-0. Junior Katie Bresciani (Hopedale, Mass.) picked up the assist on Brady's goal. 

American International cut the lead to one after a goal from Roxy Lee-Stewart in the 31st minute of play. 

In the second half, the Warriors defense stood strong and senior goalkepper Nicole Curtis (Billerica, Mass.) kept the Yellow Jackets from scoring and recorded a game-high 11 saves.

Last Season against the Skyhawks

  • Lost 2-1 in Easton, Mass.
  • Former senior Jamie Alnwick scored the only goal for the Warriors in the second half.
  • Merrimack owned a 16-11 advantage in shot attempts and also held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
  • Both sides combined for 21 fouls.
  • Curtis recorded two saves on the afternoon.

The Warriors:

  • As a team, Merrimack ranks 24 in the nation averaging 1.91 assists per game, while averaging 1.91 goals per game.
  • After the win against Amerian Int'l, Curtis ranks fourth in the Northeast-10 with 52 saves, six shy of Pace goalkeeper Leslie Robertson.
  • Savi leads the team with four goals, while Brady, Danielle Dion (North Grosvenordale, Conn.) and Alana Vecchiarello (Peabody, Mass.) has three goals each, respectively.
  • Merrimack currently ranks fifth in the Northeast-10 Conference, just a game behind New Haven.

The Opponent:

  • Coming off a 3-1 loss at Assumption College.
  • Stonehill ranks tenth in the Northeast-10 in scoring offense with eight goals.
  • Megan Sullivan leads the Skyhawks with two goals, while tying Meagan Elliott with four points.
  • Amy Wheaton has a .798 save percentage and tallied 67 saves this season.
