Women's Tennis Drops Conference Match Versus Saint Michael's, 9-0

EASTON, MA – The Merrimack women's tennis team was defeated on Friday afternoon by the Saint Michael's Purple Knights by the score of 9-0. With the loss, Merrimack is now 2-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Two Warriors pushed their singles matches to a super breaker as Shakee Messina (Caracas, Venezuela) was defeated in number one singles by the score of 6-3, 6-7 and 10-3. Junior Alyx Barnes (Portsmouth, NH) also lost in the third set by the score of 6-1, 4-6, 10-7. Senior captain Mollie Fitzgerald (Melrose, Mass.) played well in four singles but eventually fell by the score of 6-4, 6-4.

The Warriors were unable to pick up a victory in doubles action as Barnes and Rachel Muller (North Andover, Mass.) put up the best fight in the third doubles pairing, losing by the score of 8-5. In number one doubles action, Messina and Katie Veasey (Atkinson, NH) played well but did not have enough towards the end of the match, falling 8-4.

The Warriors will travel down to Florida for three matches as they will take on Eckerd on Sunday, Florida Southern on Tuesday and Florida Tech on Wednesday.
