Women's Tennis Opens Up Florida Trip With 8-1 Loss To Eckerd

St. Petersburg, Fla. – The Merrimack women's tennis team could not pick up a non conference victory on Sunday morning in Florida as they were downed by Eckerd College by the score of 8-1. With the loss, Merrimack now has a overall record of 2-5 and a conference mark of 2-1.

The lone Warrior to pick up a point on Sunday morning was Kara Hole (Portsmouth, RI) who won her number two singles match by the score of 3-6, 6-2 and 11-9. Both Rachel Muller (North Andover, Mass.) and Mollie Fitzgerald (Melrose, Mass.) were defeated in straight sets by the same score of 6-4, 6-4.

In doubles action, the duo of Hole and Fitzgerald put up a strong fight but they were not able to get a point for the Warriors as they fell to Amy Naula and Manon Ironside by the score of 8-6. The pairing of Shakee Messina (Caracas, Venezuela) and Katie Veasey (Atkinson, NH) did not fare well in number one doubles action, falling 8-2. Alyx Barnes (Portsmouth, NH) and Muller lost their doubles match by the same score of 8-2.

The Warriors stay in Florida and will take on Florida Tech on Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
