Women's Lacrosse Ready For The Battle Of Bethpage III Against #1 LIU Post
NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack women's lacrosse team will play in their final non conference game of the season on Saturday as they will travel to Bethpage, NY to take on #1 LIU Post in the Battle at Bethpage III which is held at Bethpage High school.
"We are honored and excited to be participating in the Battle at Bethpage tomorrow before the mens game as this is the first year that a women's game has also been showcased in this event and we couldn't be happier to be playing against the defending National Champions of LIU Post in the matchup," stated head coach Corinne Desrosiers. "We are looking to use our newly-regained confidence and momentum heading into the contest and are playing off the premise of truly a 'pressure-free' game - the expectation is for LIU to win, so we are going out there to try to prove that wrong."
The Warriors will play in the first game of a double header that will conclude with a division I men's game between St. John's and Georgetown. Merrimack will take on #1 LIU Post at 10 am and the men's game will follow at 1 pm.
Tickets for the event are $10 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under. Tickets can be bought at the gate on the day of the event. For more information, please call (516) 644-4005.
Merrimack enters the contest with back-to-back wins as they defeated #7 Dowling and Saint Michael's, both at Martone-Mejail Field. The Warriors are led offensively by Olivia Huie (Norwell, Mass.) who has racked up 21 goals and 25 points while Jenn Pino (North Andover, Mass.) has done everything for Merrimack, racking up 25 points, a team-high 27 draw controls and 17 ground balls. Dara Hayes (Calgary, AB) has played well for the Warriors as she has scooped up 15 ground balls and forced a team-high five turnovers so far this season.
The game will be sponsored by the Bethpage Educational Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission is to enrich the educational program of the Bethpage Public Schools. The proceeds from these games will go to the foundation to be used solely for educational purposes and to benefit the students of the Bethpage UFSD.
