Women's Tennis Drops Close Home Match Against Adelphi, 5-4
NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack women's tennis team was defeated on Sunday afternoon by conference foe Adelphi by the score of 5-4. With the loss, Merrimack is now 4-11 overall and 4-5 in conference play.
The Warriors picked up two points in singles action on Sunday as in no. 1 singles action, Shakee Messina (Caracas, Venezuela) fought hard for the three set victory as she defeated her opponent by the score of 7-6, 1-6, 6-4. Junior Kara Hole (Portsmouth, RI) continued her stellar play for the Warriors as she picked up the 6-3, 6-0 victory over Michelle Gurda.
The Warriors needed all three doubles matches in order to secure a victory on Sunday but they were only able to pick up two points. In no. 1 doubles action, the duo of Messina and Alyx Barnes (Portsmouth, NH) had to fight for the 9-7 victory over Maria Toft and Bianca Posa. The veteran duo of Mollie Fitzgerald (Melrose, Mass.) and Hole picked up the final victory for the Warriors by the score of 8-5.
The Warriors will return to the courts on Monday, April 8 with a conference match at Franklin Pierce at 3:30 pm.
