Men's Tennis Stays Hot With 9-0 Win At Franklin Pierce

RINDGE, NH – The Merrimack men's tennis team picked up their fifth straight win on Monday afternoon as they defeated the Franklin Pierce Ravens on the road by the score of 9-0. With the win, Merrimack improves to 9-4 overall and 7-0 in NE-10 action, including 17 straight wins against NE-10 foes.

"This was a very dominant showing from our guys top to bottom today," said head coach Sean Tully. "I like how our guys are playing right now as we head down the stretch in the regular season."

The Warriors won all six singles matches in easy fashion on Monday. Chris Barnhart (Longmeadow, Mass.) was the most dominant Warrior as he defeated Christopher Brewer by the score of 6-0, 6-0. Petar Golijanin (Novi Sad, Serbia) continued his great play for the Warriors as he picked up the 6-1, 6-1 victory. In no. 1 singles, freshman Matt Lipinski (Arlington, Mass.) battled to defeat Patrick Gilhuly by the score of 6-4, 6-3.

In doubles action, the duo of Lipinski and Mark Mallory (Portland, OR) dominated their opponents as they won by the score of 8-2. Vince Bellino (Amesbury, Mass.) and Barnhart won by the same 8-2 margin in no. 2 doubles play. In the final match of the afternoon, Chris Toegemann (Narragansett, RI) and Golijanin fought hard for the 8-6 victory.

Merrimack will return to the courts on Wednesday as they will play host to Bentley for a 3 p.m. conference match.
