Women's Soccer Travels to Rindge, N.H. to Face Franklin Pierce on Wednesday

COMING OFF A DOUBLE OVERTIME ROAD WIN AGAINST SOUTHERN CONN., THE WARRIORS LOOK TO CONTINUE, 4-1

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Coming off an enormous, 3-2, victory over Southern Connecticut last week, the Warriors look to continue their win streak, when they travel to Rindge, N.H. to face Franklin Pierce on Wednesday night. The game is scheduled for approximately 7 p.m. at Sodexo Field.

Last Time Out
In the first half, the Warriors took a strong 2-1 lead over the Owls. In the 10th minute of play, sophomore Steph Eaton (Auckland, New Zealand) booted a strong kick from the 30-yard line that found the back of the net. Junior Danielle Dion (North Grosvenordale, Conn.) colleted the assist.

Freshman Alana Vecchiarello (Peabody, Mass.) made it a 2-0 lead in the 33rd minute from a short pass from Dion. The Owls cut the lead to one by a unassisted goal from Caroline Staudle to close out at the half.

The Owls evened it up in the 78th minute, when Hannah Spreckley scored off a corner kick from Suzanne Pires, sending the game to overtime. 

Each side traded shot attempts in the first 10-minute session but could not find the back of the net. Then, with five minutes left in the final overtime, junior Sarah Coakley (Medway, Mass.) tallied the game-winning goal with a laser of a shot that went right by the goalie

2012-12 Season against the Ravens

  • In the first meeting, Merrimack defeated Franklin Pierce, 2-1, in overtime
  • In the second meeting, Merrimack defeated Franklin Pierce, 1-0, in the Northeast-10 quarterfinals.
  • Forward Katie Bresciani (Hopedale, Mass.) scored the game winning goal to defeat the Ravens in the NE-10 quarterfinals
  • In both meetings, the Ravens outshot the Warriors and Merrimack held an advantage in saves and corner kicks.

The Warriors:

  • Coming off a 3-1 record after defeating Southern Conn, 3-2, in double overtime.
  • Dion ranks second in the Northeast-10 with four assists.
  • Keeper Nicole Curtis (Billerica, Mass.) has 15 total saves on the season.
  • Women's soccer are ranked third in the Ne-10 conference with 11 goals.

The Opponent:

  • Coming off 1-1 tie over Assumption
  • The Ravens outshot the Lions 12-9.
  • Keepers Katie Weldon made five saves.
  • Hannah Weagle scored the goal for the Ravens against Assumption.
