Men's Soccer Tops Assumption, 3-2
WARRIORS IMPROVE TO 5-1 OVERALL, DEFEATING ASSUMPTION ON SATURDAY
WORCESTER, Mass. – The Merrimack College men's soccer team topped Northeast-10 opponent Assumption, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon. The Navy and Gold improved their winning streak to 5-0.

How It Happened
Merrimack got on the board first when sophomore Ronald Ried (Schwendi, Germany) headed the ball off a corner kick from senior Francis Mulkern (Scituate, Mass.) to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead.
The Navy and Gold extended the lead to 2-0 after an unassisted goal from junior Michael Buraczynski (Littleton, Mass.). Just three minutes after Buraczynski's goal, sophomore Augusto Silva (Hudson, Mass.) extends the lead to 3-0, off a strong kick from 30 yards out. Assumption answered back with a goal from Michael Agbortoko, to bring the score to 3-1 to end the first half.
The Greyhounds were able to bring the score within one after a headed goal from Max Roche in the 68th minute of play. The Warrior's defense kept Assumption from scoring and secured the win, 3-2.
What They Said
"I couldn't be more proud of my guys again today and the way we are starting this season,", head coach Tony Martone. "We really responded well in the first half and our defense managed to keep it together to keep them from tieing the game."
A Closer Look
- Goalkeeper Jose Silva (Northborough, Mass.) tallied five saves on the night.
- Assumption outshot Merrimack 15-9 and lead in corner kicks, 7-5.
- Ried and Silva had a team-high two shots respectively.
- Mulkern collected the only assist for the Warriors.
Up Next
The Warriors return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 24, when they travel to Saint Michael's for a Northeast-10 Conference match-up. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
