Women's Soccer Tackles Pace University on Saturday

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – After a tough, 4-2 loss against Northeast-10 Conference rival Franklin Pierce on Wednesday night, the Merrimack College women's soccer team returns home to host Pace University on Saturday (Sept. 21) afternoon at Martone-Mejail Field. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Last Time Out

After Merrimack fought back to tie the contest at 2-2 midway through the second half, Franklin Pierce edged ahead late and added an insurance tally to down the Warriors, 4-2, on Wednesday night.

The Ravens got out to an early lead in the second half when Nicole Chaet and Jannice Sundqvist scored the first two goals.

The Warriors quickly returned the favor in the 58th minute of play when senior Sami Brady (Rockland, Mass.) was able beat the Ravens' goalkeeper and cut the lead to 2-1. Merrimack was able to tie the game in the 66th minute of play after an assisted goal to senior Jordan Schnopp (Dalton, Mass.) from Jenna Savi (Dedham, Mass.).

But Franklin Pierce would respond with two goals of its own to settle for the final margin of victory.

Last Season against the Setters

  • Lost last year to Pace, 3-2
  • Forward Danielle Dion (North Grosvenordale, Conn.)scored the two goals for the Warriors.
  • Keeper Nicole Curtis (Billerica, Mass.) finished the match with six saves.
  • Merrimack held a 20-13 advantage in shorts and 7-5 in corner kicks.

The Warriors:

  • Coming off a 4-2 loss to rival Franklin Pierce on Wednesday.
  • Freshman Alana Vecchiarello (Peabody, Mass.) leads the team with three goals.
  • Curtis ranks seventh in the NE-10 with 18 saves.
  • As a team, ranks second in the NE-10 with 13 goals.

The Setters:

  • Coming off 5-0 loss to American International on Wednesday.
  • The Yellow Jackets outshot the Setters, 25-5, in that contest.
  • Gaolkeeper Leslie Robertson made seven saves in that match.
  • Pace has only scored three goals this season.
