WARRIORS EARN FIRST CONFERENCE WIN OF THE SEASON AGAINST THE RAVENS FRIDAY AFTERNOON

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - The Merrimack College women's tennis team breezed by Franklin Pierce, 9-0, Friday afternoon at North Andover High School. The Warriors start off conference play 1-0 on this young season.

How It Happened
Merrimack captured three victories in doubles action to sport a 3-0- advantage at the end of pairs play.

At the No. 1 position, Grace Messina (Caracas, Venezuela) and Shakee Messina (Caracas, Venezuela) posted an 8-0 victory. Senior Kara Hole (Portsmouth, R.I.) and junior Chealsey Giatrelis claimed an 8-0 win at the second doubles spot. Senior Alyx Barnes (Portsmouth, N.H.) and junior Rachel Muller (North Andover, Mass.) picked up an 8-2 victory at the No. 3 spot.

The Warriors secured their first conference victory with a sweep of six singles matches.

Grace, Shakee, Kara, and Rachel each cruised to 6-0, 6-0 wins at the first, second, fourth, and fifth position, respectively. Giaterelis prevailed 6-1, 6-0 at the third slot. Barnes picked up a 6-1, 6-0 in the sixth position.

"We earned a very good win today," said head coach Peter Arsenault. "We'll look to keep up our strong play this weekend with two important matches against Saint Rose and Assumption."

Up Next
The Warriors return to the courts as they host Saint Rose College on Saturday, Sept. 28th at 2 p.m. and host Assumption College on Sunday, Sept. 29th at 2:30 p.m. Both matches will be played at North Andover High School.
