Event:
Head of the Charles
Location: Charles River | Boston, Mass.

How It Happened
The Navy and Gold entered the Women's Collegiate Eights Division, one of thirty teams to compete in the race.

In its 49th year, the Head of the Charles Regatta is the world's largest two-day rowing event, attracting over 11,000 athletes and 400,000 spectators.

The Warriors gained valuable experience, competing against some of the top programs across the country. Bates College won the Eights Division, as programs nationwide competed in the event.

Merrimack's crew consisted of Aubrey O'Neill (Pawcatuck, Conn.)Lydia Staschke (Guilford, Conn.)Lauren Blazon (Lowell, Mass.)Norina Reda (Dedham, Mass.)Emily Lane (Bedford, N.H.)Trena Jones (Niskayuna, N.Y.)Zoie LeeMara Payne (Sandwich, Mass.) and coxswain Jess Khoury (Bay Shore, N.Y.).

Merrimack's final time was impacted by a penalty assessed during the race. Just before going under the final bridge on the course, the Warriors were docked one minute for failing to yield to another boat. The Warriors were in a pack of three boats all trying to go through the final bridge, under one of the iconic bridge arches. While attempting to fit under the bridge, the oar of one of the Warriors' stuck another competitors.

The penalty was assessed because the crew in front had the right of way under the bridge.
