Head Coach Gabe Mejail: "The team showed up strong in the first half, and I was very impressed going into halftime with the game tied. Unfortunately, Saint Rose proved why they're a top-five team in the country in the second half."
How It Happened
The Warriors hung with the Golden Knights, even after Saint Rose scored to begin the game.
Michaela Phillips notched the first goal of the game in the 26th minute, knocking home a ball from close range.
Less than 90 seconds later, the Warriors answered. Senior Marissa Maiolo (Monroe, Conn.) pounced on a loose ball in the box to score her second goal of the season.
Junior goalkeeper Meghan Gulbrandsen (Haverhill, Mass.) made three first-half saves to keep the Warriors in the contest.
In the second half, the Navy and Gold began to slip up, allowing Saint Rose chances in the danger area. The Northeast-10's leading goal scorer Carmelina Puopolo tallied the game-winner in the 63rd minute, her 13th goal of the year.
Saint Rose added two goals in the final 20 minutes of action to put distance between themselves and the Warriors, winning by the 4-1 final score.
Inside The Numbers
- Maiolo's goal was her first since she scored in double overtime to defeat Dowling College in the season opener. The tally sets a career high in goals for the senior
