Women's Volleyball Swept by Stonehill, 3-0

EASTON, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's volleyball team lost to Stonehill College, 3-0, in the Warriors third of five consecutive road matches.

How It Happened
The Warriors did not win a set for the third match in a row, but the Navy and Gold pressured the second-place Skyhawks throughout the night.
Merrimack lost by set scores of 25-19, 25-23 and 25-18. In the first set, the Warriors came out strong to take a 9-5 lead. Stonehill answer by going on a 14-5 run, taking a 19-14 advantage.
The second set was more back-and-forth, leading to a 20-20 tie towards the end of the frame. At that point, the Skyhawks went on a four-point spurt, but the Warriors did not succumb. They answered with three consecutive points to make it a 24-23 set. At that point, Stonehill shut the door on a Merrimack comeback, as Meaghan Lee tallied the set-winning kill.
The Navy and Gold did not hold a lead the entire third set, but kept the frame within striking distance until the Skyhawks pulled away. With the Warriors within one point at 16-15, Stonehill marched on a 7-0 run to cement the victory.
Senior Stephanie Sheehan (Smithtown, N.Y.) notched a double-double with 12 kills and 13 digs. With her final kill of the match, Sheehan moved into second place on the program's career kills list.
Inside The Numbers
- Record watch: Sheehan now has 1,397 career kills. She needs 167 kills over the remainder of the season to break Molly Cindric's all-time record of 1,563 career kills
- Sophomore Tara Stuhr (Huntington Beach, Calif.) totaled a team-high 22 assists.
- Senior Corrine Gosselin (Lawrence, Mass.) continues to prove that she is one of the most efficient attacking players in the conference. She finished with nine kills and zero errors for a .529 hitting percentage
- Stonehill's Emily Iverson, who entered the match in second place in the NE-10 in assists per set, finished with a match-high 34 helpers
