Women's Volleyball Triumphs, 3-1, Against Assumption

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's volleyball team took down Assumption College, 3-1, in a Northeast-10 match played at Hammel Court on Friday night.

How It Happened
Merrimack returned to conference action after playing its last two matches outside of NE-10 play. The Warriors won the first two sets and battled back to win the fourth set, securing the match for the program's third win in a row.

The first two sets went by quickly, with the Navy and Gold taking both by a score of 25-17. The Greyhounds hung around in a tightly contested third set, winning 28-26. Merrimack shut the door in the final frame, winning the match after a 25-19 decision in the fourth set.

Seniors Stephanie Sheehan (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Corrine Gosselin (Lawrence, Mass.) combined for 35 kills on the night. Sheehan finished with a match-high 21 while Gosselin totaled 14 with only three errors for a .379 hitting percentage.

Merrimack displayed an efficient offense throughout the contest, totaling a .224 attacking rate as a team. Sophomore Jocelyn McLain (Fort Collins, Colo.) also finished with double-digit kills (11) as Merrimack had three players notch at least 10 kills.

Inside The Numbers

  • Sophomore setter Tara Stuhr (Huntington Beach, Calif.) finished the contest with a match-high 47 assists. She nearly had a double-double as she ended the night with nine digs
  • Junior libero Madison Burke (San Jose, Calif.) totaled 27 digs to lead all players
  • Sheehan was the only player on the Warriors to total a double-double, notching 11 digs to go along with her 21 kills
  • Gosselin also helped control the middle of the court, compiling two block solos and five block assists

Merrimack returns to the court tomorrow as they travel to American International, kicking off the final month of the season. The match is set to start at 1 p.m.
