What They Said
Head Coach Anne Rounce: "That was as evenly played of a game as we've been in this year. The girls worked hard the full 70-plus minutes and that's something we haven't done all year. We need to regroup, continue to practice hard and prepare a tough road trip to a talented St. Michael's squad on Wednesday."
How It Happened
Merrimack opened the scoring at the 16:54 mark of the first before Adelphi drew even 12 minutes later, as both sides entered the break even at a goal apiece.
Twenty-five minutes into the second half, Adelphi took a temporary lead on a penalty stroke before Simpson got the Warriors back to even with a laser into the back-left corner with less than 10 minutes to go.
That pushed the contest to overtime, and after Kristen Bagley was denied off the pad of junior Madison Davis (San Jose, Calif.), 39 seconds later Mary Plotas won it for the hosts, burying an unassisted tally to give the Panthers the win.
Freshman Rylee Hammond (Phillipston, Mass.) notched her team-leading fifth goal in the first before Simpson tied that mark with her late equalizer with nine minutes left in the contest.
Inside The Numbers
- Adelphi held a commanding 19-5 lead in shot attempts, limiting the Warriors to a season-low four shots on goal
- Davis was at her best, setting a single-game career high with 12 saves
- The Panthers fought their way to 16 penalty corners on Saturday compared to only two for the Warriors
