How It Happened
The Warriors played in their second match over a span of four days on the road against Franklin Pierce.
Merrimack got into a rhythm early as they swept the doubles portion of the match, 3-0.
At No. 1 Grace Messina (Caracas, Venezuela) and Chealsey Giatrelis (Centerville, Mass.) won their match 8-1. Senior Rachel Muller (North Andover, Mass.) and freshman Mackenzie Blair (Thomaston, Conn.) took care of business at No. 2, 8-3.
The highlight of the match for the Navy and Gold came at No. 3. The freshmen pair of Danielle Dunn (Middleton, Mass.) and Abbey Bryant (North Brookfield, Mass.) triumphed over their opponents 8-4. For Bryant, it was her first collegiate doubles match and her first career victory.
The teams only played their first three singles matches, with the Warriors sweeping the Ravens.
Grace Messina won at No. 1 6-0, 6-0. No. 2 went in favor of Giatrelis, 6-4, 6-2. Finally, at No. 3, Danielle Dunn defeated her opponent, 6-1, 6-0.
