NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – For the second time this season, Merrimack College women's tennis sophomore Grace Messina (Caracas, Venezuela) was named the Northeast-10 Player of the Week. She shared the honor with Southern New Hampshire's Diana Vamvakitis.
Messina went a combined 6-0 this past week as she led the Warriors to a 3-0 record, all of which were part of NE-10 play. The Venezuelan did not drop a set in singles play, and combined with partner Chealsey Giatrelis (Centerville, Mass.) to win all of their doubles matches.
The sophomore is now 9-0 at No. 1 singles this season. She has yet to lose a set in singles play.
The reigning conference Player and Rookie of the Year has a combined record of 16-1 this season. In her career Messina has a 21-0 singles record and 18-2 doubles record in conference play.
Merrimack begins the last week of the regular season this afternoon against non-conference opponent Colby-Sawyer at 3:30 p.m.
