Women's Basketball Opens NE-10 Play Against Stonehill Wednesday (5:30 p.m.)

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's basketball team begins Northeast-10 play with a 2-0 record, as the Warriors host Stonehill College on Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. to wrap up a three-game homestand.

Last Time Out:
Merrimack defeated Post University and Goldey-Beacom College by an average of 28 points in two victories as part of the NE-10/CACC Challenge.
Merrimack limited both opponents to less than 60 points, including only giving up 39 points to Goldey-Beacom. The Navy and Gold scored an average of 76 points per game.
Senior Aria Johnson (Los Osos, Calif.) put together a strong tournament, nearly averaging a double-double with 11.5 points per game and 9 boards per contest. Sophomore Caitlyn Garger (Hicksville, N.Y.) led the team with 26 points over the two games.
Seniors Chloe Rothman (Newton, Mass.) and Cassi Amenta (Lynn, Mass.) had effective outings. Rothman played a team-high 51 minutes, registering 12 assists over two games. Amenta scored a career-high 19 points against Post on Friday, registering personal bests with eight field-goals made on nine field-goal attempts.
Every player that took the court for the Warriors in the tournament scored, including effective performances from freshmen Stormee Van Belle (Sunnyside, Wash.) and Adrianna DeCicco (Shokan, N.Y.). Van Belle posted an eight-point effort against the Lightning, while DeCicco notched six second-half points to contribute to the 36-point win.
Last Season vs. Stonehill:
The Warriors lost to the Skyhawks twice last season, once at home and once in Easton, Mass.
In the first matchup, Rothman scored a team-high 14 points on 6-for-14 shooting from the field. Johnson added eight points, five rebounds and three steals.
In the second meeting, the Navy and Gold could not get the better of Stonehill, but got a strong performance off the bench from center Madison Ward (Binghamton, N.Y.). The junior scored 10 points, making all but one of her field-goal attempts in 18 minutes.
The Skyhawks:
- Stonehill advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season last year, finishing with a 19-10 overall record
- Senior forward Tori Faieta has led the team in scoring through two games, averaging 23 ppg in two Skyhawks' victories. Faieta was named the NE-10 Player of the Week for her performance over the weekend
- Sophomore point guard Kelly Martin leads the team with nine assists through two games, and has played in a team-high 59 minutes
