FROM THE E-T: Merrimack Hosts LIU Post in NCAA Tournament Tonight
By Mike McMahon/Eagle Tribune
NORTH ANDOVER – Merrimack College knows a thing or two
about second chances. And tonight, the Warriors will have a second
chance to leave their home field with a win, as the Warriors host
LIU Post in the third round of the NCAA Tournament.
Two weeks ago, Merrimack thought its
season might be over. The Warriors fell to Southern New Hampshire,
2-0, in the semifinals of the Northeast-10 tournament, and the
future, while optimistic, was very much in doubt.
The Warriors weren't sure what to expect the day before the
selection show, when head coach Tony Martone had some fun with his
players.
"We practiced a few days after the SNHU game, and Coach told us
he wasn't sure we were going to make it," goalkeeper Jose Silva said.
"We were all pretty confident, but when Coach started talking like
that at practice, we weren't really sure what to think. I know I
wasn't sure. I think a lot of us thought it wasn't going to happen
for us."
