Last Time Out:
Freshman Taylor Simpson reached the double-digit scoring mark with her team-leading 10th goal of the year, but Merrimack dropped a 2-1 double-overtime Northeast-10 Conference to Bentley on Tuesday night in Waltham.
The rookie scored Merrimack's only goal at the 34:59 mark of the first half to put the Warriors up by one at the break, but Bentley came back to tie it midway through the second frame to send the game to overtime.
In the first overtime session, it was all Merrimack, as the Warriors were awarded an early penalty corner but saw their attempt off that chance blocked by the defense. The visitors attempted two more shots in the first overtime, but each of those were either blocked or went wide of the cage.
In the second overtime session, after Bentley earned a penalty corner, Becca Moore inserted the corner to Sally James, who fed it back to Moore who fired home the game-winner at 92:06 to end it.
Earlier This Season vs. SNHU:
Paced by a season-high seven different Warriors finding the back of the net at least once, Merrimack cruised to an 8-0 road victory against Southern New Hampshire on Sept. 30 at Larkin Field.
Playing against Southern New Hampshire for the first time in program history, the Warriors eased ahead with three goals in the first 15 minutes to take a 3-0 lead into the locker room before exploding for five more insurance tallies in the second half en route to their most lopsided win of the young season.
Seven different Warriors found the black on Tuesday, led by a two-goal, five-point performance off the stick of junior Sydney Bowker. Overall, four different players registered multi-point efforts for Merrimack, while junior Madison Davis and senior Gina Rosinski split halves and each combined for the shutout.
The Penmen:
- Southern New Hampshire restored its varsity field hockey team this season for the first time since the 1980s, marking a historic new era for the program
- With that excitement comes growing pains, and while the Penmen have mustered just one win in 15 games, they've made progress along the way
- Freshman Amaris Taylor leads the Penmen with 11 points (4g, 3a), while goaltenders Cassandra Nickerson and Jill Piacitelli have split time in net, with the latter owning a team-best 4.73 GAA and .764 SV%
