WARRIORS SNAP TWO-GAME LOSING STREAK AND BLANK PENMEN IN NE-10 ACTION

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College baseball team scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning en route to a 4-0 Northeast-10 Conference baseball victory over No. 12 Southern New Hampshire at the Warrior Baseball Diamond Friday afternoon.

How It Happened

Sophomore Bobby Losanno (Peabody, Mass.) went 3-of-3 at the plate while sophomore Frank Crinella (Springfield, Mass.) tallied a team-high two runs in Friday's victory.

Senior Conner McMahon (Westfield, Mass.) went five shutout innings on the mound, as he allowed four hits while striking out six. Senior Tyler Cuming (Red Bank, N.J.) earned his third win of the season, as he allowed two hits and struck out two batters in four innings of relief.

After five scoreless innings, Merrimack grabbed a 1-0 lead over the Penmen as Crinella advanced to home on an overthrow by Cam Oliveira. With two outs, the Penmen threatened the Warriors in the top of the seventh with a runner on first, but Cuming's ended the threat with a groundout to third.

Up by one, Merrimack sent eight men to the plate in the eighth inning, scoring three runs on two hits while also taking advantage of three walks. With one out and bases loaded, a two-run RBI single from sophomore Sean O'Neill (Norwood, Mass.) extended the Warriors lead to three (3-0). Following O'Neills single, freshman Ryan Petrone (Cherry Valley, Mass.) drove in Merrimack's fourth run of the game after an RBI single to left field.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Penmen led off the inning with a single to center field, but Cuming knocked off the next three batters to give SNHU its ninth loss of the season.

Inside the Numbers

  • SNHU posted six hits and left 12 runners on base.
  • Merrimack went 5-of-27 at the plate as well as tallied three RBI and six stolen bases.
  • Viehoff recorded his second loss of the season for the Penmen as he allowed two runs off three hits while striking out five and walked four.
  • Merrimack posted six walks and six strike outs.
  • Both Merrimack and Southern New Hampshire tallied one fielding errors.
