NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College baseball team grabbed an early 3-0 lead after three inning and cruised to a 11-1 Northeast Division victory over nationally-ranked Southern New Hampshire Saturday afternoon at the Warrior Baseball Diamond.

How It Happened
Sophomore Matt Brown (Belmont, Mass.) led the Warriors' offensively as the first basemen went 4-of-4 at the plate to go along with his two RBI's and one run. Sophomore Mike Forgione (North Branford, Conn.) chipped in with three hits and a team-high three runs.
Junior Tim Cashman (Rowley, Mass.) picked up his third win of the season as he scattered nine hits and a run while striking out seven in eight innings of action.
Merrimack jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first after a sacrifice fly from freshman Cam DiSarcina (Shirley, Mass.) allowing Forgione to score. After a scoreless second, Merrimack extended its lead to three (3-0) after the Warriors tallied two runs off two hits against the Penmens' bullpen.
Shortly after, Merrimack continued to dominate on offense as the Warriors tallied one run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. Down by four, the Penmen finally tallied its first run of the game on an RBI single to left field by Manny Cruz in the top of the fifth.
Up by three, the Warriors' bats came alive in the bottom of the sixth tallying six runs off six hits to give Merrimack a commanding 11-1 lead. In the final two and a half innings, the Warriors kept the Penmen at bay and stunned the visitor's for the second time this season.
Inside the Numbers
- SNHU posted nine hits, eight strikeouts and left seven runners on base.
- Merrimack went 12-of-34 at the plate as well as tallied nine RBI and five stolen bases.
- McCarthy recorded his first loss of the season for the Penmen as he allowed three runs off three hits while striking out two and walked one.
- Merrimack posted six walks and five strike outs.
- SNHu tallied two fielding errors while Merrimack tallied only one.
