WARRIORS END THREE-GAME WINNING STREAK TO BEARS SATURDAY AFTERNOON AT NORTH ANDOVER HIGH

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - The Merrimack College women's tennis team ended a three-game winning streak, as the Warriors fell to 11th- nationally ranked New York Institute of Technology, 9-0, Saturday afternoon at North Andover High School.

How it Happened vs. NYIT

NYIT claimed all three doubles matches to grasp a 3-0 lead heading into singles action.

Merrimack freshman Grace Messina (Caracas, Venezuela) and junior Chealsey Giatrelis (Centerville, Mass.) put in a good effort, but they were defeated 8-5 in the No. 1 spot. Junior Shakee Messina (Caracas, Venezuela)and senior Kara Hole (Portsmouth, R.I.) were defeated, 8-4, in the No. 2 slot.

The Warriors did not pick up a point in singles action all day as G. Messina fell to No. 21 Sara Burinata in No. 1 singles, 6-4, 7-5. S. Messina was downed in No. 3 singles by the score of 6-1, 6-1. Hole and junior Rachel Muller (North Andover, Mass.) were defeated by an 8-0 decision in the No. 4 and No. 5 singles spot, respectively.

"Today's match was a tough fought match against a very good team," said head coach Peter Arsenault. "We will look to gain upon today's match with just a few matches left."

The Warriors return to action tomorrow (April 5), when they travel to Waltham, Mass. to take on Bentley University in a Northeast-10 Conference clash. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
