Women's Tennis Remains Unbeaten in Northeast-10 with Win Over Bentley

WARRIORS REMAIN UNBEATEN IN NE-10 ACTION AND IMPROVE TO 11-4 ON THE SEASON

WALTHAM, Mass. - The Merrimack College women's tennis team remains unbeaten in Northeast-10 Conference play with an 8-1 victory over Bentley University Sunday afternoon in Waltham, Mass.

How it Happened vs. NYIT

Merrimack swept doubles play to take a 3-0 lead into the singles portion of the match.

The Warriors' top pair Grace Messina (Caracas, Venezuela) and Shakee Messina (Caracas, Venezuela) prevailed, 8-2, against Yamus and Gianino. Kara Hole (Portsmouth, R.I.) and Chealsey Giatrelis earned an 8-2 victory over Petrini and Hetyei. Rachel Muller (North Andover, Mass.) and Alyx Barnes (Portsmouth, N.H.) captured an 8-3 win at the third slot.

Merrimack captured five singles wins to seal the Northeast-10 conference victory.

Grace Messina earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No. 1 slot. Bentley's Catherine Gianino gave Shakee Messina a run in the No. 2 match, but prevailed 7-6, 7-5. Giatrelis defeated Brittani Hetyei by the score of 6-4, 6-3 while Hole won 6-1, 6-4 against Melanie Scott.

In the no. 5 singles slot, Muller earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Rachel Petrini. Bentley took the No. 6 singles match, 6-3, 6-1.

The Warriors return to action on Thursday, April 10, when they travel to Beverly, Mass. to take on Endicott in a non-conference battle. First serve is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
