PHILADELPHIA – The Merrimack College women's crew team wrapped up the 2013-14 against some of the top teams in the country, as the Warriors challenged themselves and performed admirably at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia.

Head Coach David LeFebvre: "My biggest goal for this regatta was to show the squad the standard we need to attain. We were outgunned, but now the team knows what we need to do. Overall, we may not have been satisfied with the results, but it sets the bar higher for us and was a great way to wrap up a fall and spring season."
How It Happened
The weekend's regatta pitted Merrimack against the best competition it had seen all season, as the Warriors squared off against several top-10 programs from the most recent NCAA National Rankings.
In the qualifying Heats, Merrimack faced off against top-ranked Nova Southeastern, fifth-ranked San Diego and eighth-ranked Philadelphia University, as well as fellow Northeast-10 Conference crew Franklin Pierce. The winner advanced directly to the Grand Final, while the second-through-fourth place finishers moved on to the repechage race.
Merrimack would place fourth in the qualifying heats, placing ahead of Franklin Pierce with a final time of 7:16.532.
Still alive for a shot at the Grand Finals, the Warriors raced in the repechage race but fell short, placing fifth to qualify for the Petite Final.
Unfortunately for most teams, severe weather moved into the area and forced a delay due to the heavy downpours, lightning, and winds nearly 50 mph. The Petite Finals were initially cancelled but then rescheduled, but only one team received the message and raced unopposed.
